Job Description

Job Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (MEM) in the College of Engineering at Drexel University in alignment with the Universitys Areas of Excellence and Opportunity in support of its 2030 Strategic Plan invites applications for fulltime nontenure track (NTT) teaching positions with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: design and automation for sustainable manufacturing and process control automation; machine design; and sustainable aviation and aerospace. The successful candidate will have a passion for excellence in teaching and in active studentcentered learning with a desire to further invigorate the undergraduate curriculum around key competencies and student active learning missions. This includes contributing to undergraduate design and lab course instruction. Faculty in this role will also mentor students on senior design projects engage in advancing recently established departmentindustry partnerships such as one with a global leader in process control automation and advise campus student organizations.


Candidates must hold a PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field by the proposed September 1 2025 start date with outstanding academic and/or industrial credentials. Applicants who hold an MS in mechanical engineering and possess additional industry and/or teaching experience will be considered for appointment at the Instructor level. They should demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the abovelisted subject areas. Candidates should have previous design and laboratory experience and a commitment to excellence in the education of undergraduate and graduate students.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to undergraduate design and lab course instruction.
  • Mentor students on senior design projects engage in advancing recently established departmentindustry partnerships such as one with a global leader in process control automation and advise campus student organizations.
  • Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in oncampus online and hybrid modalities.
  • Example course topics include mechanics thermal fluids control systems design manufacturing jet turbines aerodynamics and emerging fields. Courses will leverage expertise with computeraided design engineering and prototyping Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and applications of AI and machine learning.
  • Encouraged to develop and teach laboratory courses and to advise students on senior design projects.
  • Contribute to departmentwide curriculum development to maintain and improve the instructional program.
  • Primary responsibilities include a teaching load of 30 credits and a service load of six credits per academic year during the fall winter and spring terms.

Required Qualifications

  • MS in Mechanical Engineeringor a related field by the proposed September 1 2025 start date with outstanding academic and/or industrial credentials.
  • Minimum of 12 years ofextensive experience and ability to demonstrate and apply expertise with all of the following to mechanical and aerospace engineering: MATLAB Python R SQL Java C CAD Creo SolidWorks Fusion360.
  • Candidates must have the ability to demonstrate and apply experience with computeraided design engineering and prototyping Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and applications of AI and machine learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous design and laboratory experience and a commitment to excellence in the education of undergraduate and graduate students.
