The talented innovators in Goleta CA are a leading developer and provider of satellite mechanisms deployable structures and booms and deployable solar array systems to the global space market. The team is revolutionizing spaceflight and are currently being utilized on missions with NASA the Department of Defense and commercial space companies. We have a current opportunity for a Solar Array Design Engineer to join our team in Goleta CA. In this role you will report to the Design Engineering Group Manager and be part of a project team working on various tasks including electrical and mechanical design.
Responsibilities
  • Layout and design of photovoltaic solar arrays.
  • Perform sizing and power analysis charging analysis grounding and ESD for deployable solar arrays.
  • Design and model electrical schematics power harnessing and circuit boards.
  • Develop and execute qualification campaigns for photovoltaic and electrical components including mechanical thermal and radiation testing.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering to develop and validate electrical interconnect processes such as welding and soldering.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering on electrical derating and EEE parts lists.
  • Proactively interface with multidisciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical cost and schedule requirements
  • Create 3D solid models using SolidWorks CAD software in support of new and existing space flight programs.
  • Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements.
  • Create maintain and release component assembly and layout drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. Utilize SolidWorks PDM system to maintain configuration control
  • Utilize hardwarebased techniques to perform research and development iterate on design concepts correlate engineering models and develop manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Generate technical documentation reporting and presentations of design test and analysis results.
Ideal Experience
  • Bachelors degree in mechanical Aerospace Engineering or other related degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with design manufacture and verification ofelectromechanical systems photovoltaics and composite structures.
  • Experienced with SolidWorks PDM or CAD
  • Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to travel an average of 1015 travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
  • US Citizenship Required with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.
Desired Skills
  • 10 or more years experience in space industry including developing building and testing space flight hardware ideally deployable solar arrays.
  • Selfmotivated in applying engineering principles concepts and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments.
  • Experience with space mechanism design and aerospace guidelines such as GSFCSTD7000A (GEVS) AIAA SNASASTD5017 MMPDS etc.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to produce completed staff work
