About the unit
The Sterile Processing Department is a fast paced work environment. Upon hire Team Members are expected to attend a 90day orientation. While on orientation techs will attend an SPD 101 class where educators will teach the Sterile Processing Department standard of work and regulations. Techs will also have a preceptor while on orientation. Technicians will assemble case carts according to surgery schedules. This will include sterile instrumentation according to patient procedure. When completed technicians will transport case cart to the OR and place in designated area. Depending on your hire site in Grand Rapids Sterile Processing Departments can anticipate 4090 surgical cases. Sites may include small differences but can expect the same job duties with expectations. Team members can also expect to wear surgical attire in the department.
Orientation/Training
All new hires go through a 90Day of takes place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday for 90 done with orientation you will then move to your regular shift.

Scope of work
Sterile Processing professionals are responsible for cleaning decontaminating sterilizing and distributing medical and surgical instrumentation. They are among the most vital contributors to the delivery of safe highquality patient care. Work performed in the Sterile Processing department usually follows a processing cycle. Decontam>Inspect>Assembly>Package>Sterilize>Inspect>Store>Inspect >Dispense. After use items that can be reprocessed are returned to the decontamination area to start the process all over again it is important to note that at each step in the process items are inspected to ensure that they are clean in good repair assembled and processed correctly. Sterile Processing Techs are also involved in the record keeping and tracking process across many different functions of their jobs. They must provide properly processed products when they are needed. The patient must be the center of every quality concern.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
CBSPD Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) or IAHCSMM Registered Central Services Technician Certified within 1 year and 6 months Required
