What Youll Do

The Small Component Pressing Supervisor is responsible for leading all aspects of high hazard explosive processes and reports directly to the Pressing Senior Manager of High Explosives Manufacturing department. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles of and compliance with the safety basis and principles of ConductofOperations as described in the U.S. Department of Energy Order 422.1. The supervisor position requires a thorough knowledge of explosives and explosive components and the ability to understand the operation of complex equipment such as presses heating ovens etc.


Leads teams in problem solving addresses employee and customer concerns performs reviews ensures employee training and qualifications are maintained applies lessons learned and reviews and responds to NNSA evaluations/findings. Implements company division department and customer requirements; provides instructions and guidelines; and resolves barriers to performance inconsistencies in requirements and work priority conflicts. Provides leadership and personal interaction to promote positive work environment and encourages individual involvement. Sets expectation for cohesiveness collaboration and teamwork within the team and across organizations.

Specific responsibilities of the Small Component Supervisor include:

  • Provides direct oversight and supervision of High Hazard Extrudable/Pellet Pressing Operations and Practices as well as coordination of all operational support material needs
  • Presents small components to quality personnel
  • Escalates/resolves operational issues as needed with groups that include:
  • Director of High Explosive and Materials Testing Senior level Managers of Enterprise Planning and Controls Managers in Procurement Managers in Transportation and Program Managers
  • Conducts daily standup and standdown meetings
  • Assigns personnel to tasks based upon qualifications and operational needs
  • Coordinates and verifies explosive moves
  • Ensures resources are available to meet Division and Plant schedules
  • Fosters collaborative relationships between Bargaining and NonBargaining employees
  • Enforces Plant safety security and quality standards in all operations
  • Maintains multiple explosive and equipment inventories

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with a minimum of fiveyears of relevant experience.
  • Applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent may be considered on an exceptional basis with 13or more years of relevant experience

  • Technical knowledge of engineering formalized operations and/or electronics
  • Understanding and application of appropriate principles concepts practices and formalized operations applicable to the position
  • Ability to identify research and systematically resolve complex issues and problems
  • Advanced knowledge of explosive safety practices associated training processes and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage exempt nonbargaining and bargaining personnel
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through oral and written word
  • Ability to interact across the enterprise

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligencescope polygraph pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
