Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is part of a team that provides technical support for a variety of critical enterpriselevelsystems used across the Northshore School District. This position supports troubleshoots and resolvesissues related to the Districts information systems which includes but is not limited to studentinformation transportation financial human resources and payroll functions. This position collaboratesand coordinates with team members and stakeholders on business operations and associated processes toensure information systems are in alignment with the districts needs related to data quality data
governance business continuity and security.

Essential Functions:

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

  • Researches analyzes develops tests implements documents and maintains enterpriselevel software solutions; identifies problems and requirements; analyzes and identifies constraints and critical data needs.
  • Assists in the analysis and support of user requirements system configuration and maintenance development of reports and ongoing implementation of new releases and modules of district systems.
  • Analyzes and diagnoses system issues; troubleshoots issues independently with other staff and/or with the vendor; determines bug fixes implements and tests modifications; creates and maintains relevant documentation.
  • Works with leadership subject matter experts and key business stakeholders to ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard the districts digital data infrastructure and applications.
  • Proactively suggest technical solutions to improve business processes productivity fiscal responsibility data quality and security.
  • Works with district staff and vendors to schedule or perform system updates and upgrades while ensuring continuity of district systems.
  • Analyzes and designs system configuration to accommodate business functions; analyzes potential system integration issues between a variety of applications.
  • Designs develops and implements processes to maintain system and data integrity interoperability with other systems and problem identification isolation and resolution.
  • Performs data extraction and manipulation using SQL and other tools; uses reportwriting tools to assist users in creating and modifying reports.
  • Develops software processes in a variety of programming languages appropriate to the task goals and environment.
  • Acts as a contact for software vendors and peer districts; reports software problems and monitors vendor responsiveness.
  • Assists in the preacquisition evaluation of packaged software and hardware systems; determines compatibility with existing software and systems; ensures that new software or systems will maintain the overall data integrity of district data; integrates new software into district systems and provides technical support.
  • Determines and establishes priorities and schedules for assigned work to meet district needs; develops project timelines and workflow documents.
  • Assists or acts as a backup for other team members.
  • Participates in user group sessions training sessions and workshops on a local regional or national level as necessary to keep current regarding software changes and/or additions; work with neighboring districts on issues of shared concerns including the coordination of statewide efforts to standardize and streamline processes and reporting activities for Washington State users.
  • Travel possibly out of state may be required in support of assigned duties.
  • Performs related duties consistent with scope and intent of employee assignment.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Executive Director of Technology.

Working Conditions:This position requires the ability to: sit for prolonged periods; meet inflexible deadlines; exercise mentaland visual concentration; deal with distraught or frustrated people; work flexible and irregular hours tocomplete tasks; occasionally travel outofstate for training or meetings; and operate a motor vehicle andtravel between sites. This position also requires sufficient dexterity and precision to operate a computer;prolonged exposure to visual display terminal; and occasional lifting and carrying of equipment andsupplies up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field and the followingexperience which may be overlapping: three 3 years of increasingly responsible experience workingwith key business computer systems and business processes in a large complex organization includinglarge scale application and computer system support and installation; three 3 years of applicationsprogramming or systems analysis experience relational database management and SQL query
development.


Allowable Substitution
An equivalent combination of education training and/or experience as determined by the district maysubstitute for the required Bachelors degree or other specified experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Skill in systems development methodologies life cycle and implementation procedures
  • Skill in software testing and data validity procedures
  • Skill in software programming installation testing and troubleshooting
  • Skill in database development including ability to write/read SQL for a variety of SQL platforms
  • Skill in various reportwriting tools
  • Experience with shell navigation and scripting in a UNIX or Linux operating system environment
  • Ability to analyze data and skill in detecting errors and verifying data
  • Skill in organizing activities setting priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Exhibit high attention to detail and followthrough on a variety of assigned tasks
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability and willingness to upgrade skills to maintain the highest level of efficiency and highqualitywork
  • Ability to provide and effectively communicate technical assistance and training to nontechnicalstaff
  • Ability to listen effectively and facilitate solutions with a variety of personality types
  • Ability to work in an atmosphere where interruptions occur frequently and priorities are oftenmodified
  • Ability to work irregular and flexible hours as required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional positive working relationships withindividuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner

Licenses/Special Requirements:

Valid Washington State drivers license.



Salary: Nonrepresented Administrative Personnel Professional Technical (NNRAPPT) Level II; placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE; additional annual stipend for MA or PhD/EdD degree. FLSA Exempt.


Work Year: 12 month position 260 days per year 8.0 hours per day.

Benefits: Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package for eligible positions. Generally you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31.
