TITLE Assistant Principal
Middle School and/or Elementary Level
REPORTS TO Building Principal
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Building Principal under the direction of the Building Principal assists in the development and evaluation of the instructional program. This position will assist in the direction and evaluation of all assigned staff provide leadership for continual interpretation of instructional programs to school staff and service area citizen groups interpret district policies to school staff parents and students assume responsibility for planning scheduling and staffing assignments and assume any other duties as directed by the principal. This position will also work collaboratively with the building principal to implement the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and subsequently monitor and adjust the plan in order to improve overall student achievement. The Assistant Principal must exhibit exceptional abilities in communications human relations and instructional leadership. The Assistant Principal must also display enthusiasm dedication integrity and a commitment to all students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Washington State Principal and Teacher Certification
- Masters Degree or higher
- Successful experience as a classroom teacher
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current valid CPR and First Aid
- Written and oral communication skills with proficiency in both Spanish and English
Knowledge:
- District policy and Washington State laws regarding discipline and school safety
- Best practices of instruction and assessment and the ability to support staff in implementing these practices
- Gather interpret and utilize multiple sources of assessment data
- Assist in the analysis of research and assessment data
Skills and Abilities:
- Utilize effective communication and strategies with parents staff and community concerning the school program system rules and procedures including student management issues
- Design and implement structures for effective operations to improve student learning opportunities
- Facilitate problemsolving when conflicts arise between parents and school staff
- Ensure effective instructional practices and educational opportunities for all students especially those identified as lowperforming
- Consistently act and hold others accountable for culturally competent behaviors and actions
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding student information
- Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse harassment intimidation bullying fights substance abuse etc.
- Adheres to federal state and district regulations policies and practices
- Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical/mental requirements described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job and may be supplemented as necessary.
This position involves sitting a portion of the time but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound near and far vision depth perception; handling and working with educational and psychological materials; and providing highly technical oral and written information and reports. The job is performed with the majority of time spent indoors and under minimal temperature variations; a portion of the day will be time spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.
This position may require the employee to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. This position may also require with assistance lifting carrying and supporting a student up to 150 pounds.

This position is that of Assistant Building Principal and is represented by the Monroe Principals Association. Salary and benefits as determined by the Monroe Principals Association.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
Performance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with District evaluation procedures. The process shall include an evaluation of the employees performance of the above position responsibilities.
