Position Announcement: BTR Induction Secondary Senior Coach and Lead Design StrategistFTE: 0.8 FTE Location: Boston MAStart date: July 1st 2025About the positionThe Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) Induction Secondary Senior Coach and Lead Design Strategist is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the successful transition of teacher residents into fulltime teaching positions within the Boston Public Schools (BPS). The position ensures that newly credentialed teachers are effectively inducted into the profession equipped with the tools to excel in their roles and supported in their development as educators who uphold the BTR principles and beliefs. The BTR Induction Secondary Senior Coach and Lead Design Strategist collaborates closely with the Director of BTR Induction Programming BTR Residency Team BPS leaders and community stakeholders to design and implement a comprehensive induction program that fosters teacher retention teacher networking teacher joy professional growth and student success. This position reports to BPEs Director of BTR Induction Programming.About BPEBoston Plan for Excellence operates a PreK12 pathway of neighborhoodbased Teaching Academiesschools that provide a worldclass education for all students while preparing outstanding new teachers for successful sustainable careers as urban educators. We run two Teaching Academies in the Nubian Square neighborhood of Roxbury: Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School and Dearborn STEM Academy. Through Boston Teacher Residency a nationally recognized and replicated clinical model for training teachers we prepare aspiring educators for the Boston Public Schools and run a citywide teacher support network. Students also receive support from Dudley Promise Corps a oneyear neighborhoodbased AmeriCorps service program serving in our Teaching Academies.Key ResponsibilitiesProvides oneonone and group coaching to new secondary teachers on launching establishing and maintaining a safe productive and culturally responsive learning environment that demonstrates agency and independenceGuides teachers in using assessment data to inform instruction and in becoming efficient and effective in their lesson planningCollaborates with year 13 BTR grads to support their growth in the learning and study of their practice by identifying a problem of practice and by using PDSA cyclesProvides bimonthly checkins for BTR secondary teachers in years 13 of teaching to monitor progress and to keep BTR grads connected to the induction networkCreates and develops systems of ongoing support and development for early career teachers with the Director of Induction to ensure they meet and exceed district and state standards for teaching excellenceDevelops and launches programming that fosters teacher networking and teachers learning with and from one another (Networking Events and Collaborating Learning Groups)Ensures that induction programming is centered on K12 student learning and that maximizing K12 student learning is the core concern for induction staffSupports the development of Induction social media networking the Induction website and Induction teaching toolsCoruns the operations and facilitation of a weeklong summer institute in August for new BTR teachers and returning BTR graduates Collaborates with the Director of BTR Induction Programming in the field and through video to align expectations around new teacher development in launching and developing a productive learning environmentCodesigns and implements systems to track early career teacher progress student growth data programming participation and yearly induction goal targetsDevelops liaisons between school/district support staff early career teachers and BTR Induction to ensure alignment of expectations goals and overall support systemsQualifications: Alignment with BPEs mission vision and core valuesAt least 5 years of experience teaching and at least 2 years of experience at the secondary level Experience collaborating and coaching students and teachers at the secondary level with at least 2 years of experience coaching early career teachers or experience within a teacher mentorship program Expertise in establishing strong classroom communities at the secondary level that are safe productive culturally responsive and build agency and independenceExperience working with neurodiverse students and inclusive classroomsStrong understanding of teacher preparation collaborative coaching and learning and induction standardsExperience in instructional coaching professional development and adult learning principles Has strong secondary content knowledge across all subject areasExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groupsCompensationBPE offers a generous benefits package including group health dental life insurance a retirement plan and a vacation allowance. The salary range for a 1.0 FTE Induction Coach is $100000 $110000. The prorated salary range for a 0.8 FTE Induction Coach position is $80000 $88000. Location and Schedule BPEs office is located in Roxbury MA. This position requires travel to various Boston Public Schools. This role involves working during some afterschool evening and weekend induction events.
