Job Description

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  2. Possession of a valid and appropriate Alabama Professional Leadership certificate.
  3. Masters Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Educational or Instructional Leadership.
  4. Three or more years of successful teaching experience.
  5. Working knowledge of the Lee County School System and the attendance area.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

FLSA Status: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISES: Personnel attached to the school as assigned by the principal.

JOB GOAL: Assists the principal in the areas of leadership supervisory and administration skills so as to promote the educational development of each student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

  • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies including the antiharassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students teachers staff supervisors and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists the principal in the supervision and evaluation of the performance of school personnel in accordance with the Districts adopted uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
  2. Assumes responsibility for the bus discipline.
  3. Helps monitor the progress of pupils and reports such progress to parents.
  4. Provides leadership in curriculum and instruction by demonstrating lessons for teachers in the latest teaching strategies and techniques.
  5. Provides leadership in the effective use of technology as a teaching and learning tool.
  6. Supervises the curricular and extracurricular programs of the school.
  7. Assists the principal in developing and implementing instructional strategies.
  8. Assumes responsibility for ensuring proper attendance procedures and followup activities are ongoing for students.
  9. Uses a participatory management system which provides staff involvement in appropriate decision making.
  10. Strives to create a school climate which is positive and productive for students staff and community.
  11. Attends and participates in student staff and school related community functions.
  12. Manages time effectively so that priorities are attended to in an effective manner.
  13. Interacts with parent student and staff concerns in a sensitive timely manner.
  14. Returns all phone calls from parents/guardians on the same day received.
  15. Checks the maintenance of the building and grounds daily and takes appropriate action to report any discrepancies.
  16. Participates in districtlevel activities as assigned by the superintendent.
  17. Helps to ensure proper maintenance and control of sitebased and student funds.
  18. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process to the rights of students.
  19. Serves as the principaldesignee when so designated by the principal or superintendent.
  20. Facilitates and placement and social adjustment of all new students to the school.
  21. Takes all appropriate actions to ensure any potential gang or gangrelated activities are eliminated.
  22. Serves as a contact with police probationary officers and other agencies that deal with attendance and behavioral concerns.
  23. Performs any other assignment deemed necessary by the Principal and/or the Superintendent to assist in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the school.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.

Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning instruction and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a twelve month contract 242 days). Salary range is based on the board approved salary schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
