Moran Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Subject: TEACHERS: After School Credit Recovery for Grades 6 and 7 Contingent upon adequate enrollment the Office of Teaching and Learning will support the middle schools to provide an After School Credit Recovery Program for students in Grades 6 and 7 who are at risk of not meeting the middle school promotion criteria:Philosophy: It is the responsibility of the educators to establish realistic and attainable standards of expectations for students to achieve in order to move to the next grade. This promotion policy is intended to be empathetic flexible and responsible to those students in our society who face a myriad of roadblocks hampering them in their quest for an for Promotion: At the completion of the school year or summer school a pupil must have passed three 3 of the major subjects (English Mathematics Science and Social Science) to move to the next Objectives:Provide targeted academic support in STEM and the humanities to close learning gaps and solidify grade level learning. Provide consistent structured opportunities for students to recover credits necessary for grade students confidence and motivation through personalized instruction and support. Program Structure: (contingent on the schools ability to staff the program)Schedule: Each middle school will offer the After School Credit Recovery program for students three days a week from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Teacher hours are 3:00 PM 5:00 PM in order to support dismissal arrange any program related parent communication notices and provide updates to grade level teachers. The program will run from May 5th June 14th. Staffing: Each middle school should hire:One 1 Math 1 ELA 1 MSN and 1 ESL teacher each day 6 hours per week for 6 weeks). One 1 Science teacher and 1 Social Science teacher ONE day per week 2 hours per week for 6 weeks). Class size: Maintain small class sizes with a maximum of 10 students per instructor to ensure individualized support and designated CPT and with guidance from middle school curriculum coordinators Grade level teams at each school will develop a series of learning modules/performance tasks focusing on the priority standards for that current grade. Materials used for this program should be aligned to the MA state standards for that grade level and employ evidencebased instructional strategies that encourage critical thinking and academic discourse. Incorporation of districtidentified resources is expected. QUALIFICATIONS: license from the MA teaching English Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies Science ESL and/or Special Education at the middle school using the identified HQIMs for the content area. to work collaboratively with a team of teachers to support students and families throughout the program. commit to work the entire program.
