Job Summary:
The Department of Facilities Management and Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a fulltime Cleaner (Evenings).
Cleaners perform a wide range of cleaning tasks to maintain assigned areas in State buildings and surrounding grounds and walkways. Incumbents work independently or as part of a cleaning team in a variety of settings such as administrative office classroom hospital laboratory living treatment and other work areas.
Illustrative Duties:
- Performs a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned areas.
- Collects and empties trash and recycling in accordance with cleaning schedules; cleans and/or removes hazardous or misplaced items waste and spills; and disposes transports or places such in appropriate receptacles and locations following proper cleaning procedures.
- Assembles cleaning carts according to assigned tasks; and prepares mixes and dilutes cleaning solutions following manufacturer directions.
- Washes floors corridors stairwells walls partitions and windows using mops detergents brushes and other cleaning devices.
- Vacuums strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets using manual or mechanical equipment.
- Scrubs and cleans showers and restrooms including toilets sinks and drains using hanrated equipment and cleaning agents.
- Replaces light bulbs and dusts or washes light fixtures and high places such as ceilings using ladders other appropriate equipment and tools.
- Polishes wood and metal surfaces fixtures furniture and equipment.
- Monitors cleaning supplies and equipment; and notifies supervisor of supply levels equipment malfunction and/or maintenance issues observed during cleaning.
- Replaces cleans and/or hangs building fixtures and decorative items such as curtains blinds and pictures.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings events and other activities.
- May be required to follow specialized disinfectant waste disposal and cleanliness standards in performing cleaning tasks; remove snow and salt walkways; clean sidewalks drives and grounds; mow lawns using mechanical and manual equipment; perform routine laundry tasks; and change bed linens.
Required Qualifications:
- Labor Class: There are no education or experience requirements for this class. Cleaners must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

- Hiring Rate: $34312 to $42565 Base Salary plus $4000 Location Pay as well as $575 Inconvenience Pay
