Job Description

Forestry Innovation Investment (FII)s mandate includes working with the forest industry and other government agencies to raise awareness of and demand for B.C. forest products at home and abroad. The Manager Marketing and Communications works in the Market Outreach program. They focus on positioning wood as an environmentally friendly preferred building material by showcasing B.C. as a reliable supplier of quality products from sustainably managed forests. By providing credible factbased information FII ensures that audiences in B.C. and globally understand how using wood from B.C.s sustainably managed forests can help address climate change and advance lowcarbon innovation. Key strategies and tactics include coordinated marketing and communications campaigns aimed at influencing domestic and international customers as well as design professional audiences and communities.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications while working with the Market Outreach team the Manager leads the development and implementation of multichannel campaigns with a focus on digital channels and content for the naturally:wood program. This includes the production and management of website content video photography case studies articles social media enewsletters and paid and earned media.
This role involves engaging and supervising suppliers managing contracts including research content writing and design services and collaborating crossfunctionally with FII teams including Wood First and outside stakeholders. The position manages multiple projects and often works under tight deadlines. The Manager negotiates with and coordinates multiple suppliers at any given time to ensure timely highquality final products for publication and public use. Exercising tact diplomacy and strategic positioning the Manager Marketing and Communications may represent FII as a B.C. Crown Corporation and/or the forest sector in place of the Director.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Creative and Content Development & Management 55
  • Develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communication plans to increase market acceptance influence issues and policy and proactively position B.C. wood and building solutions
  • Drives a content strategy and editorial calendar that supports digitalfirst marketing campaigns including but not limited to the production of web video case studies researchbased articles social media enewsletters paid media earned media and sponsorships
  • Plans and coordinates photography drone and video shoots by regularly liaising with project and location teams on shot lists and key messages and selecting briefing and managing vendors and stakeholders through to completion of each project including contract finalization storyboarding video sign offs and model release forms
  • Oversees asset accessibility in FIIs digital asset management system
  • Writes and/or manages writers to create content for a variety of communications channels including digital platforms paid and earned media feature stories media packs and industry publications while ensuring that materials are designed written produced to meet the objectives of the Market Outreach program and its stakeholders
  • Leads FIIs domestic and international media monitoring program analyzing media to identify current or potential trends opportunities and risks to the B.C. or Canadian forest industry; and provides support on message and content development
  • Manages supports and/or participates in tradeshows events and tours involving custombuilt itineraries to meet the requirements of the individuals or visiting groups
  • Works with key industry stakeholders crossfunctional FII teams and vendors to ensure alignment with industry initiatives as well as consistency accuracy and timeliness of content key messaging and brand standards across all communications media particularly digital formats and channels
Digital Marketing Development & Management 15
  • Develops multichannel digital marketing strategies and monitors performance data on an ongoing basis with the goal of driving quality traffic and engagement through campaigns
  • Develops and negotiates sponsored content placements and other paid media
  • Manages the relationship with vendors to optimize reporting and campaign intelligence
  • Supports the promotion of B.C.s forest sector and FIIs naturally:wood online Supplier Directory to achieve performance targets set out in FIIs Service Plan
Planning Development & Analysis 15
  • Contributes expertise and creative input into the development of marketing and communications strategies and workplans
  • Reviews data media packs and research reports and recommends story ideas for marketing materials and communication tools for engagement with specified audiences
  • Conducts performancemeasure evaluations develops processes and metrics and works collaboratively with the Market Outreach team to leverage digital analytic tools and support datadriven decision making and performance reporting on results and impacts of investments
Project & Contract Management 15
  • Updates program workplans in Wrike
  • Prepares and manages budgets obtaining quotes and schedules for individual projects
  • Initiates where appropriate competitive Requests for Proposals or Requests for Qualifications processes
  • Receives and analyzes proposals and negotiates where necessary
  • Selects suppliers and drafts contracts for approval
  • Monitors progress to ensure timely delivery of products or services and may evaluate supplier performance


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate joins FII with strategic marketing and communications experience from the AEC sector (architecture engineering and communications) natural resources or sustainability. Specific skills and experiences required include:
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience
  • Strong experience in the development and production of digital broadcast and print materials
  • Strong experience in project management contract management and supplier supervision

Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Excellent understanding of marketing and communications principles
  • Strong editing and writing skills appropriate for a variety of communications channels
  • Experience in managing paid media vendors
  • Campaign reporting and analysis skills with ability to establish goals and ROI
  • Knowledge of digital marketing tools channels and tactics are an asset
  • Selfstarter with the ability to work in a team environment take initiative assess priorities and multitask within a fastpaced work setting
  • Ability to perform with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; project management qualification is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills written and verbal demonstrating a high level of tact diplomacy and judgment
  • Flexibility and a positive approach to problem solving and conflict resolution demonstrating a high degree of judgment and professionalism
  • Ability to work with stakeholders and government/industry representativesbuilding consensus and supporting collaborative working relationships
  • Computer literacy with good typing formatting and experience in MS Office Suite of products (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Teams SharePoint) Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop) content management systems (WordPress) digital asset management systems (Brandfolder) and project management systems and collaboration platforms (Wrike)
  • Preferred: knowledge of public relations and issues management principles
  • Preferred: familiarity with Canadas markets for forest products and key forest management environmental or product issues and opportunities as well as building (AEC) and/or manufacturing with wood
  • Ability to travel as required

The Manager is expected to be comfortable working in a virtual and dynamic office environment and will be provided with the necessary technology and support to effectively execute regardless of location.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS
The successful candidate has completed a postsecondary degree in Business Administration Communications Marketing or a related field of discipline. An advanced degree is considered an asset.

COMPENSATION
A competitive compensation package is provided including base salary and a comprehensive total rewards package. This position is also eligible for the Province of British Columbias defined benefits pension plan. The salary range for this position is $90000 $115000 annually. The final compensation is dependent upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
