JOB SUMMARY:
Reports to Facilities Management Supervisor City of Hamilton; Performs planned and on demand maintenance duties at Library branch locations as required; Makes repairs to; plumbing fixtures relamping electrical fixtures flooring drywall doors door operators and other facility elements. Assembles repairs and adjusts library furniture fixtures and equipment; Fabrication of items from wood metal and plastic for all manner of repairs; Prepare walls furniture fixtures and apply paints stains and other treatments. Act as a backup to the cleaners including the management of treatment of biohazards. Responsible for providing a clean healthy and safe environment for staff and public at Library Facilities in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation and corporate policies.
JOB DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience / Education:
High School Graduation equivalent to an Ontario Secondary school diploma (academic) and/or a combination of education
and practical experience related to the specific job duties listed. Eg; Trade school workshops or apprenticeships
Past experience (minimum 1 year) in a facility maintenance role servicing large institutional commercial assets.
Experience with industrial / commercial cleaning and following WHMIS and biohazard guidelines
Minimum class G drivers license with a clear abstract
Skills / Competencies:
Mechanically inclined and demonstrates good working knowledge of hand and power tools their operation and safety precautions
Effectively relates to and works cooperatively with other maintenance team members and demonstrates credibility flexibility and good humour in the working environment
Prioritizes activities and works effectively independently and as part of a team; sets and achieves or surpasses goals
Maintains good working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act and practices safe work habits
Demonstrates skill in communicating presenting information writing and active listening
Displays a strong commitment to service excellence understands service objectives recognizes diverse customer and work group needs and provides excellent customer service
Analyzes and evaluates situations and issues recognizes problems anticipates consequences and develops and presents appropriate courses of action
Displays a commitment to continuous learning in order to remain current with the librarys policies and procedures relevant legislation best practices and related general and jobspecific knowledge
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability and stamina to operate relevant equipment to retrieve materials and to perform tasks involving the lifting (up to 50lbs) and movement of library materials furniture and equipment.
Legislative Requirements:
Works in accordance with all applicable Ontario Public Library Privacy Occupational Health and Safety Employment Standards Human Rights Labour Relations and Pay Equity legislation and all other relevant legislation
Organizational Requirements:
Adheres to policy and procedures identified in the Hamilton Public Library Manuals
