We are seeking a highly experienced passionate and professional Head Field Guide to lead their guiding team and uphold the standards of excellence our guests expect. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for the bush proven leadership ability and a strong commitment to guest satisfaction and environmental responsibility.
This is a key leadership role responsible not only for guiding but also for managing the team maintaining safety protocols ensuring regulatory compliance and collaborating closely with lodge management to enhance the overall safari offering.
Deliver exceptional guided experiences including game drives bush walks and interpretive talks
Lead mentor and motivate the guiding team to maintain high levels of professionalism and guest engagement
Oversee guiding rosters vehicle maintenance and care of guiding equipment
Act as a primary host for guests ensuring memorable and informative wildlife experiences
Maintain uptodate knowledge of local wildlife flora and conservation issues within the Reserve
Ensure compliance with all safety standards reserve rules and environmental protocols
Liaise with lodge management to align guiding services with overall guest experience and brand positioning
Contribute to wildlife monitoring sightings logging and where relevant data collection and conservation initiatives
FGASA Level 2 qualification or higher (Level 3 preferred)
Lead Trails Guide (Full)
Advanced Rifle Handling
Valid First Aid Level 1
Registered with DEAT and in possession of a valid PDP (Public Driving Permit)
A minimum of 5 years experience as a Field Guide with at least 1 2 years in a leadership role
Excellent communication and guest interaction skills
Professional presentation strong hosting ability and a passion for storytelling
Teamoriented with strong leadership mentoring and organisational skills
Education
Accredited with a CATHSSETA NQF2 or NQF4 Nature Site Guide qualification (both theory and practical components completed). Registered as a guide with the National Department of Tourism (NDT). Valid Trails Guide Certificate VPDA (View Potentially Dangerous Animals). SASSETA Firearms Proficiency Certificates (for guiding in areas requiring rifle competency). Valid South African Code 8 Driver s License with Public Driver s Permit (PDP).
