About the Role
The Rail Data and Systems team is a group of analysts and engineers that apply our knowledge to support our operational teams drive innovation and understand the behaviours of our railway. Working within the Rail Network Capacity team we leverage our key subject matter experts in rail systems and our extensive analytical experience to drive improvements.
Reporting to the Rail Data & System Superintendent you will be responsible for acting as a bridge between the real world of operations and the analytic domain. The work is varied and has a singular focus; make it easier for our stakeholders to use the data we have available to us.
This role will see you apply your analytical skills to support a wide array of practical initiatives across the railway. You will work closely with multiple departments including Rail Operations Rail Maintenance Rail Engineering Integrated Operations Projects Planning Technical and Technology.

The role will be based in Perth with site travel required
Key responsibilities:
About You
Having a strong technical background (Data science Mathematics Actuarial science Engineering) you have a passion for applying your analytical skills in a practical environment. You will have an uncanny ability to listen to your customers and provide them with the information they need in a format that makes sense. You can work across multiple levels of an organisation
Your relevant rail industry experience coupled with analytical problemsolving skills and financial acumen will ensure success in this role.
You will have following skills and experience:
A degree in Data Science Engineering Mathematics Physics Computer Science Software Engineering Actuarial Science or related disciplines is highly regarded
Demonstrated experience in Rail Mining or heavy industry is preferred but not a requirement
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of analytic software such as SQL Python R PowerBi Streamlit Snowflake and AWS; and analytic techniques such as mathematical modelling and machine learning are highly regarded
Demonstrated ability to communicate and affect data driven changes is preferred
Demonstrable experience in data analysis and gathering of insights for project recommendations
Consulting experience is preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels within a business is highly regarded
Qualifications in formal problem solving techniques such as 6Sigma RCA Global8D or Lean Manufacturing is preferred
