The Ophthalmology Department is seeing a Medical Scribe who will ensure complete and accurate capture of medical information as spoken/instructed verbatim by the clinician. This role will assist the clinician in navigating the electronic health record. Accompany the clinician in all approved patient care locations. The scribe does not perform independent clinical judgment or direct patient care.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Accompany the clinician into patient exam areas for the purpose of accurately documenting the clinicians encounter with the patient as described by the clinician.
- Seek realtime clarification of all information entered in the medical record.
- List diagnosis and symptoms as well as followup instructions and prescriptions as mentioned by the clinician.
- Enter orders including diagnostic testing and medications which are pending and require clinical approval to activate.
- Document procedures performed and described by the clinician.
- Invoke the organizations approved scribe statement for each clinical note.
- Complete all scribe duties before leaving the patient care area.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
- Participate in clinical research activity at the direction of the clinician.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelors Degree in disciplines such as human anatomy physiology medical terminology nursing or related field.
- Six months experience as a medical scribe medical transcriptionist or other related job in a medical office.
