About the role
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) the Specification Specialist (Scientist) provides technical support for PLM users regionally. This role ensures the integrity of data and specifications for products ingredients and packaging and supports compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires extensive knowledge of specification and data management systems and processes and it involves establishing and maintaining global best practices that meet local needs.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Specification Management:
Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure information and resources support the supply and production of goods to meet specifications legal requirements and audit compliance.
Manage new inspection plans onto SAP through PLM.
Provide data to support business activities and product information requests.
Proficiently utilise system functionality to deliver necessary data sets (e.g. NFP QIP Ingredient declaration).
Troubleshoot for end users and other Super Users.
2. PLM Specification Documentation Governance:
Drive data management of supporting specification evidence through governance of nutritional shelflife microbiological and other R&D validation results in PLM system.
3. Communication:
Maintain good relationships and communicate internally with project team functions associated departments and thirdparty suppliers or manufacturers.
Regularly update the Tech Lead on project status and changes to milestones.
Contribute to global and regional meetings with suggestions and updates.
4. Governance and System Improvement:
Collaborate with Technical Leads and system users on the continuous improvement of processes related to Specification and Data Management.
Establish efficient processes for new product creation.
Support training and onboarding of new PLM users.
Support maintenance of training materials for PLM.
5. Legal Compliance:
Ensure local food regulatory requirements and applicable data are uploaded onto PLM files.
Support the regional Regulatory lead with the development and maintenance of nutritional and ingredient declarations and label sets within PLM.
6. Health & Safety:
Ensure personal safety and that of all personnel under your authority.
Establish practices to maintain a safe working environment and hold people accountable for those standards.
Challenge unsafe behaviours and provide consequences for noncompliance with company H&S policy.
Adhere to the duties required within the Company Health and Safety policy.
About you
Academic: Degree in Food Science or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of Food Industry experience in Quality R&D Regulatory or Data Management. PLM system knowledge preferred. Handson experience in creating ingredient process and product specifications. Experience in both branded and own label food companies is ideal.

Experience Centre:
Being in the office every single day is a thing of the past. Here at McCain we champion hybrid working. This means we dont have a set expectation of exactly when you need to be in the office however we do encourage our fulltime officebased people to connect in person with others for around half of their working time as thats the best way for us to build and maintain our connections. Our head office (Customer Experience Centre) is on the outskirts of Scarborough 1.5 hours away from Leeds City Centre and about an hour from York. We have lots of colleagues who travel to and from our Experience Centre (even if it is just for a good coffee! and because hybrid really does mean hybrid at McCain they get the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues when theyre in the office and balance that with working from home to ensure they get a good lifework balance.
