Position Summary

The Opportunity:SkagitValley College (SVC) is excited to launch a Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education and Teacher Certification program that was created to prepare Preschool3rd grade teachers to meet the needs of our local school districts that serve a diverse multicultural community. We are seeking qualified equityminded applicants who are passionate about preparing future generations of teachers for this fulltime tenuretrack faculty position in Early Childhood Education to teach in this new program. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills enthusiasm for the subject matter and an inclusive and equitydriven approach to teaching and learning. Candidates should be able and excited to teach a variety of lecture and fieldworkbased courses including supervising student teaching experiences. Faculty at SVC respect and work effectively with diverse students colleagues staff and others in a campus climate that promotes innovative and equityminded teaching a diverse learning environment and a strong focus on improving student success rates and addressing systemic inequities in access and achievement for all students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills including those needed to effectively teach in an online or hybrid environment enthusiasm for the subject matter an inclusive and equitydriven approach to teaching and learning and innovative pedagogy and teaching strategies. Candidates should be able and excited to teach a variety of lecture and laboratorybased coursework in the department. Faculty at SVC respect and work effectively with diverse students colleagues staff and others in a campus climate that promotes innovative and equityminded teaching a diverse learning environment and a strong focus on improving student success rates and addressing systemic inequities in access and achievement for all students.

SVC Early Childhood Education Faculty typically teach an equivalent of 15 18 instructional units per quarter 3 classes) and College service. This position is expected to begin in Fall Quarter September 2025.

There are two 2 vacancies for this position. This position is based primarily at the Mount Vernon Campus; however Instructors may be called upon to teach at the Whidbey Island Campus located in Oak Harbor. Additionally the incumbent will teach primarily on Saturdays.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in Early Childhood courses primarily in the 300 and 400 level courses leading to a Residency Teaching Certification and Early Childhood Education endorsement;
  • Teach courses on a range of topics including second language acquisition culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy reading instruction and childhood development;
  • Serve as the primary instructor for the student teaching courses including observing and supporting students in the field;
  • Work can be completed remotely and the incumbent may determine their office hours;
  • Teach classes in person every other Saturday and some evenings.
  • Incorporate an equityminded approach to teaching and learning;
  • Conduct ongoing development assessment and revision of curriculum that reflects innovative and inclusive pedagogy and advances in Early Childhood Education;
  • WorkcollaborativelywithSVCfacultyfromotherfieldstodevelopappropriatecurricula that reflect the diversity of student experience;
  • Createapositivelearningenvironmentforstudentsusingdiverseteachingmethodsto support and enhance student success;
  • Collaboratewithotherdisciplinestoincreaseenrollmentandsupportstudentretentionin the program with a focus on ameliorating equity gaps;
  • Developmonitorandassessstudentlearningoutcomesandfullyparticipateinthe colleges program review process;
  • Develop assess and analyze program outcomes for the purpose of program improvement and enhanced student learning;
  • Conduct program outreach by leading program briefing sessions for prospective students assisting with marketing and recruitment activities and leading student application reviews;
  • Collaborate facilitate and participate in advisory board meetings;
  • Participate in unit department and other College activities including College governance;
  • Teach online hybrid or classroombased classes as required;
  • Work collaboratively as part of theEarly Childhood Educationdepartment team; Practice multicultural understanding and foster equity;

  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Early Childhood Education Elementary Education or related field;
  • Two 2 years of experience teaching K3rd grade;
  • Experience teaching multilingual learners;
  • Experience working with the Latinx Community and/or understanding of political economic and social issues affecting the Latinx population.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual;
  • ELL or Bilingual Education endorsement;
  • Dual Language teaching experience;
  • Experiencing teaching preschool;
  • Experience teaching any courses offered within theEarly Childhood Education department;
  • Experience training or teaching adults;
  • Experience teaching online using an industrystandard LMS such as Canvas.

Salary Benefits Conditions of Employment Application Procedure About SVC

Salary and Benefits:

  • Initial base annual salary placement forranges from $72818 to $97091 for a standard 172day contract plus a additional $5000 Tier 1 High Demand Enhancement Stipend for a standard 172day contract (stipend is incorporated in the salary range maximum within the posting for the purposes of demonstrating the potential salary). This stipend is contingent upon the continuation of the HB2158 legislative funding and the amount dispersed to the college by the State Board. The College has a negotiated faculty wage scale in which placement on the salary structure is in accordance with the SVC Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
These rates are scheduled to increase for theacademic year in which this position is anticipated to start.
