ABOUT DIVISION

EMEA Channels & Streaming includes 3 regional businesses based on Amsterdam Warsaw and Johannesburg an EMEA digital team based in London and the Out of Home division also based in London and responsible globally for partnerships with Airlines Cruise operators and Commercial premises. The Channels business is a portfolio of BBC brands operating as linear services for Pay TV partners across EMEA with the Streaming division covering digital products such as FAST and BBC branded video on demand products across the EMEA region.

THE ROLE

The Director Programming and Content Strategy will lead and shape the programming content strategy and planning across linear channels and VOD platforms within the CEE and MENAT region. Reporting directly to the SVP and General Manager for the CEE and MENAT region this role will drive the creative and strategic direction for content balancing editorial excellence with datadriven insights to maximize audience engagement and revenue growth.
This position will act as a key collaborator across multiple functions ensuring content strategies align with both regional and global priorities while maintaining BBC Studios high editorial standards and competitive edge. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the TV and VOD landscape a proven track record of driving results through influence and the ability to thrive in a matrixed organisational environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Programming and Strategy Development

  • Define and execute a programming and content strategy that ensures alignment with business objectives and optimizes audience engagement across linear and VOD platforms.
  • Lead the curation and scheduling of content for linear channels ensuring relevance competitiveness and adherence to BBC Studios editorial standards.
  • Develop and oversee VOD content strategies enhancing discoverability user experience and monetization opportunities.
  • Marry datadriven insights with creative strategy to identify opportunities and refine programming approaches for both shortterm impact and longterm growth.


Process Improvement and Operational Excellence

  • Streamline business processes systems and data management to enhance planning efficiency data integrity and forecasting accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with BBC policies and regulatory requirements including content quotas and reporting to bodies like Ofcom and the BBC Board.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve return on investment across all services while achieving the best value for money.

Content Acquisition and Localisation

  • Provide strategic oversight of content acquisitions identifying trends and leveraging program supply insights to influence decisionmaking at the board level.
  • Ensure effective localisation processes that meet the needs of diverse regional audiences while maintaining the highest editorial standards.


Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with regional and global teams including marketing sales distribution and creative to align programming and content strategies with broader business goals.
  • Navigate the complexities of a matrix organisation to ensure seamless collaboration and alignment across multiple stakeholders.
  • Communicate the implications of programming decisions to key stakeholders ensuring transparency and clarity.
  • Partner with external producers licensors and content creators to strengthen partnerships and content pipelines.

Performance and Optimisation

  • Monitor and analyse performance metrics viewership data and market trends to inform strategic decisions and refine content strategies.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve programming approaches based on competitive insights and audience behaviors.
  • Drive innovation in content offerings to stay ahead in a dynamic media landscape.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead mentor and develop a highperforming team of programming and content professionals fostering a culture of collaboration innovation and excellence.
  • Act as a thought leader and key influencer in shaping the programming and content vision for the region.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork continuous improvement and best practices across the organization.
  • Inspire creative thinking while maintaining focus on achieving strategic and operational goals.

Performance Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyse audience insights competitive trends and performance data to refine programming strategies and inform decisionmaking.
  • Manage financial planning and budgets for programming ensuring crosschannel viability and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Deliver regular reporting on performance metrics risks and progress toward targets to senior leadership and regulatory bodies.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE

Key Criteria

  • Extensive experience in content strategy programming or a related field with proven success across linear and VOD platforms.
  • Deep understanding of editorial standards and the ability to ensure compliance across all content.
  • Strong ability to combine datadriven insights with creative strategy to optimise programming and content decisions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the competitive TV and VOD landscape including trends audience behaviours and market dynamics.
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to work seamlessly across teams and functions in a matrix organisation.
  • Proven ability to drive results through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and inspire internal and external stakeholders.

Desirables

  • Experience working with global brands or in an international media environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in key markets within CEE and MENAT.
  • Experience with FAST/AVOD platforms and digital content monetisation models.
