Reporting to the Vice President Market Research & Economic Analysis the Commodities Economist will support in providing insights reporting and forwardlooking recommendations on macroeconomic and industry trends related to metals & mining. In addition the Commodities Economist will support internal and external reporting related to Tecks commercial operations and assist with strategic planning and thematic scenario analysis.

Responsibilities

    • Be a courageous safety leader adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
    • Maintain macroeconomic data and produce related statistical analysis charts and graphs pertinent to Tecks business
    • Provide timely and strategic economic analysis for Tecks Commercial Finance and Operational groups
    • Play a key role in strategic planning for Tecks Commercial business with a particular focus on longerterm economic trends impacting commodity markets
    • Support Business Development projects on an adhoc basis
    • Assist in the preparation of periodic reports both internal and external
    • Develop and maintain external relationships with third party research and data providers
    • Support the VP Market Research & Economic Analysis in developing strategic market narratives and reports related to Tecks products
    • Undertake special projects and assignments at the direction of the VP Market Research & Economic Analysis

Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years experience in a commercial environment
    • A university degree in Economics or Business Management or practical experience in a commercial economics role.
    • Highlevel communication skills with proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills
    • A deadlineorientated approach to projects
    • Understanding of base metal trade flows
    • Knowledge of key industrial economy indicators particularly in China
    • Ability to work with multiple complex information sources and quickly identify important data points and narratives
    • A positive approach with a focus on continuous improvement for people and processes
    • A strong desire to produce outstanding analysis
    • Previous work experience in metals and mining company would be considered a plus
