Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Masters degree in Economics Finance Operations Research or Decision Science with two or more years of experience.
  • Demonstrated research or analysis focus on financial economics industrial organization or a related topic.
  • Written track record of peer reviewed publications and/or technical reports that include financial risk or investment analysis.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Excel statistical software and economic modeling tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with energy market modeling and simulation.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and policies in the energy sector.
  • Previous experience in an industry consulting or advisory role.
  • Professional experience working for industry in the energy sector.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel bend and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type handle materials manipulate tools and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is ($93204 - $191076). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) a leading national laboratory for nuclear energy research and development is seeking an Industrial Economist to join our Decision Sciences Department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will report to your group lead and department manager.

We are seeking a highly skilled economist with expertise in industrial organization to join our team. The successful candidate will conduct in-depth research in the energy markets with a particular focus on financial and risk analysis. This role requires a strong analytical mindset the ability to interpret complex data and a passion for the energy industry with demonstrated interest and experience in nuclear energy bioenergy hydropower and/or other energy technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply industrial economics principles theories and concepts to conduct innovative analysis in support of programmatic goals.
  • Leverage modeling and simulation to address complex problems across multiple different fields. These fields may include nuclear chemistry digital twins critical infrastructure energy delivery and energy security applications.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on energy market design including regulated and unregulated market structure competition and regulatory impacts.
  • Perform detailed financial and risk analysis to assess market trends pricing strategies and investment opportunities.
  • Develop economic models to forecast market behavior and evaluate policy impacts.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide insights and recommendations based on research findings.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends regulatory changes and technological advancements.
