Job Description

WHO WE ARE


The Fare Collections Supervisor maintains and ensures the collection of all Metro Transit bus cash fare revenue and revenueridership data including the direct supervision of Vault Pullers. Work is primarily performed in a garage setting where you will occasionally be required to work near moving parts or equipment as well as being frequently exposed to fumes particles and loud noises. This position also requires you to lift up to fortyfive 45 pounds on a frequent basis during an average eighthour shift and occasionally push mobile equipment weighing up to 2000 pounds.

*This recruitment will establish a six 6 month Eligibility List for current and future vacancies.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Education/Experience Requirements:

Any of the following combinations of completed education (in business management operations management or closely related field) and experience in business management operations management transit/public safety or closely related areas with at least one 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience:
  • High school diploma/GED with six 6 years of experience AND at least one 1 year of experience in management supervision or leadership.
  • Associate degree with four 4 years of experience AND at least one 1 year of experience in management supervision or leadership.
  • Bachelors degree or higher with two 2 years of experience AND at least one 1 year of experience in management supervision or leadership.

Metropolitan Council Employees Only: Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit 6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.

Metro Transit Leadership Academy 1 year
Project Management Development Program 12month session) 1 year
Project Management Development Program 6month session) 6 months
Four Learning Institute Certificates You must obtain all four certificates listed below to receive credit for 6 months supervisory experience.
  • Leading SelfPersonal Effectiveness Certificate
  • Leading SelfCommunication Certificate
  • Leading SelfBusiness Skills Certificate
  • Leading OthersPreparing for Supervisor Certificate

Licensure Requirement:
  • Must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record per Metro Transit standards.
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally required to stand/walk for long periods and sit. Frequently required to speak hear read and write. Position has vision requirements (close distance peripheral depth perception and ability to adjust focus). Position is occasionally required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms. Position is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl and turn twist bend at waist. Occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects from 10 to 50 pounds.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in the job (desired qualifications):
  • Intermediate skill in Excel and Word including generating financial and statistical reports.
  • Project management Plan and lead projects to successful completion.
  • Asset protection and security monitoring identify areas of security concerns.
  • Problem/conflict resolution skills and techniques particularly supervising in a union environment.
What knowledge skills and abilities you should have within the first six 6 months on the job:
  • Knowledge of management practices principles of supervision performance management and ability to perform coaching counseling mentoring staff development training performance improvement and discipline.
  • Skill in providing effective work direction to staff.
  • Basic technical skills in looking at mechanical fare collection equipment and having an understanding of how/why it would have malfunctioned in order to coordinate repairs.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to all levels of people inside and outside the organization including possessing good grammar voice and diction.
  • Knowledge of computer operation and software applications including skill in basic word processing spreadsheet applications and Windows operating system.
  • Must have analytical detailorientation and math skills to create and analyze reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities simultaneously.
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment like facsimile printer and copier.

If you arenew to the Metropolitan Council you must pass a drug test physical and a background check which verifies education and employment covers driving record (if applicable to the job) and any criminal record. If you have a criminal conviction you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a casebycase basis based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.

If you arealready an employee of the Metropolitan Council you must pass a criminal background check if the job youre applying for is safety sensitive is a supervisory or management job is in the Finance Information Services or Human Resources departments or has access to financial records files/databases cash vouchers or transit fare cards.
