The Programs and Response Advisor will be responsible for supporting the Compassionate Intervention Unit with policy making legislation development and implementation. This position will also be involved with assisting with the Ministrys emergency management response activities when needed.
To be effective the Programs and Response Advisor will have strong critical thinking skills and is ready to influence positive changes within Albertas mental health and addiction services system of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support policy development and analysis using the policy cycle.
- Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and legislation.
- Support legislation and regulation drafting.
- Develop briefings presentations and ministerial correspondence.
- Contribute to the development of advice and recommendations to guide broader decisionmaking processes.
- Participate in procurement activities and develop or monitor grants or contracts.
- Support and coordinate meetings with stakeholders Ministry representatives and other provincial stakeholders.
- Represent ministry perspectives and priorities on department crossministry and external Steering Committees or working groups.
- Working with the Emergency Management Team support the development of current situational awareness updates for the Minister Deputy Minister Emergency Management Cabinet Committee (EMCC) and any other entity as required.
- Coordinate with service providers for mental health and addiction supports related to emergency / disaster response.
- When required provide Secretariat support for the Ministrys Psychosocial Response and Recovery Coordination Team (PRRCT).

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards
University graduation in a related field (E.g. Social Sciences Human Services Public Policy Health etc. plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
- Previous writing experience in a government or similar environment including drafting briefings presentations or other documents for decision makers.
- Conducting research and gathering data to inform evidencebased recommendations.
- Policy development procedures including policy trends and best practices.
- Knowledge of legislative processes and experience in drafting materials for policy regulations or legislative changes.
- Project management or program implementation experience.
- Collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Coordinating emergency management activities or responses.
- Experience in a health/mental health and addictionrelated organization is preferred.
