The actions of the Branch align with government priorities such as those identified in the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy (ATIS) and are intended to attract talent and expertise support the next generation of innovators and attract impactful innovation investments to help diversify the economy and lead to economic and social benefit for all Albertans.
The Innovation Partnerships and Investments unit (IPI) works with internal and external stakeholders to identify gaps and opportunities in the innovation ecosystem with the foresight of implementing programs and initiatives for delivery by system partners and department to better coordinate and strengthen Albertas innovation ecosystem development and commercialization efforts. The unit identifies paths for stakeholders/companies in the commercialization and scaleup journey by leveraging networks and programming. System optimization ecosystem development and strengthening Albertas commercialization efforts by working with key system partners including Government of Alberta agencies nonprofit organizations industry and academia and is an area of focus for the IPI.
Role Responsibilities
The Innovation Ecosystem Branch is looking for a Manager of Innovation Partnerships and Ecosystem Supports. This position reports directly to the Director of Innovation Partnerships & Investments.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Developing and maintaining operational and implementation plans.
- Monitoring effectiveness by providing performance measures performance feedback and continuous training opportunities.
- Overseeing innovation programs and initiatives delivered by innovation system partners including agencies and other organizations.
- Developing effective communications measures that keep key stakeholders well informed and providing opportunities for feedback and participation.
- Contributing to the development of innovation related policy products within the department.
- Collaborating with innovation system stakeholders to increase the capacity for integrated strategy implementation within the ministry and GoA as whole.
- Supporting Executive and Senior management of the division in accomplishing the goals of the branch and division.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A university degree in Business Public Administration Science or related field plus five 5 years of related experience working in a program delivery stakeholder relations or Innovation / Commercialization Planning environment.
- Sound knowledge of project management approaches.
- Experience leading a project team to successful achievement of objectives.
Equivalencies:
- A related twoyear diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution and minimum of seven 7 years related experience; or
- A related oneyear certificate from a recognized postsecondary institution and minimum of eight 8 years related experience; or
- Nine 9 years related experience.
Assets:
- Content knowledge of research and innovation funding ecosystem development and commercialization supports at the provincial and federal levels.
- Knowledge of Albertas innovation system players incubators accelerators startup supports understanding of innovation support programs.
- Strong political acumen and a thorough understanding of government decision making processes in order to adequately advise and support department goals.
- Knowledge of grants management tracking systems such as Microsoft Client Relations Management (CRM).
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office programs with a focus on technical Excel including pivot table generation and analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of Action Request Tracking System or equivalent SharePoint etc.
