Job Description

Position Summary:

COCA offers half and full day summer arts camps for children in dance movement drama and visual art. Teaching assistants are scheduled to work throughout the summer to help implement camps supervise students and maintain a safe and secure camp environment for children.

Essential Functions:

Work with the assigned faculty member to prepare the classroom each day.

Look for and collect materials and supplies as needed.

Greet students and parents as they arrive at COCA each day and help to keep pick up and drop off safe and organized by providing direction supervision and staffing.

Safely supervise students as they travel to and from snack locations as well as supervise during snack time.

Provide a fun safe and enriching environment for snacks transitions and breaks.

Supervise students in the classroom if the Teaching Artist needs to leave the room.

Be available to take to or pick up children from the bathroom the office the lunchroom and

extended daycare etc.

Supervise students during lunchtime. Ensure that they remain seated behave appropriately and eat their lunches.

Help the Teaching Artist fulfill their goals for each class meeting by participating in classroom activities assisting students as needed and leading activities when requested.

Model engagement and attention at all times.

Provide additional attention to students who may need extra help.

Assist the Teaching Artist with cleanup each day.

Teaching Assistants may also be assigned to supervise students in Before Care/After Care and will be expected to lead activities during those hours. This position requires additional training.

On the last day of each session assist the Teaching Assistant(s) and Camp Manager with break down/setup for the upcoming session after camp time.

On the final day of the summer assist the Camp Manager with packing up supplies and cleaning the rooms/studios.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/ or Qualifications:

Must be 16 years of age or older.

Minimum 2 years childcare or other experience with children required.

At least two 2 years of arts experience preferred.

Competencies:

Excellent verbal communication skills required.

Ability to problemsolve be flexible imaginative and innovative.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Ability to circulate around the building on foot and navigate stairs.

Ability to sit for periods of time.

Must be able to lift 20lbs.

This position is required to work at offsite COCA locations and is eligible for onsite work at COCA.

Access to transportation to work throughout the St. Louis area is required. If driving must be able to provide proof of automobile insurance.
