Job Description

Job Summary

Support API issue campaigns including developing and implementing plans to sequence proactive tactics to elevate issues and identifying and engaging with allied voices. Serves as the daily manager for communicationsled issue campaigns tracking progress making recommendations on strategy and communicating results and important changes to senior Communications leadership. Collaborates with external and internal partners including policy mobilization and government relations teams to advance API advocacy priorities through integrated strategic communications efforts leveraging paid and earned media. Supports the VP Integrated Communications with strategic input on stakeholder engagement including APIs Communications Committee and Joint Trades initiative as well as supporting with the department budget management and tracking.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides project management and campaign recommendations for priority issues drafting communications plans calendars fact sheets and other content to elevate issues.
  • Supports Vice President in preparing regular reports internally and to API members on communications advocacy progress through emails presentations reports & briefings.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with allied organizations experts and outside consultants to support an echo chamber advancing API issue priorities and campaigns. Works to regularly identify new relationship opportunities among external groups and stakeholders. Routinely meets with and discusses progress and value of partnerships with stakeholders within the organization including Policy External Mobilization and Government Affairs.
  • Supports state communications campaigns including providing input on messaging identifying campaign opportunities and developing campaign timelines.
  • Works with media team in collaborating crossdivisionally to compile information facts and messaging to advance strategic issue campaign goals.
  • Works with paid media team to stand up and advance creative projects related to issue campaign priorities liaising with vendors navigating internal review processes and providing feedback on strategy and direction.
  • Anticipates emerging narratives on priority API issues and collaborates across API communications team to support integrated campaign efforts.
  • Regularly reports on API issue campaigns to various stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Serves as a key point of contact for the Communications Committee directing inquiries and requests maintaining an updated roster and drafting agendas for regular meetings both in person and virtual.
  • Manages the Joint Trades initiative including leading the monthly campaign calls drafting agendas for monthly meetings coordinating and organizing the biannual in person twoday Joint Trades summits.
  • Supports the VP of Integrated Communications on the department budget management including tracking vendors running stewardships meetings quarterly processing contracts and working with the Finance and Legal departments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Driven and proactive creative thinker. Selfstarter with experience filling gaps and performing in a fastpaced environment and supporting multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Requires 57 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Outstanding writing/editing skills with excellent attention to detail. Strong knowledge of AP style is essential. Able to write and provide ideas to elevate issues on social media.
  • Bachelors degree in relevant area or other related field equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in communications and/or a media role. Degree in journalism communications or relevant field is a plus.
  • Talent for distilling complex issues into understandable relevant messages.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across a large organization and build and maintain strong relationships with the media.
  • Working knowledge of policy issues Congress the Executive Branch and political debate. Expertise in the issues specific to API is not required.
  • Ability to provide informed media counsel and exercise sound judgment when interacting with external partners and reporters.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer.
  • Able to move in the office to access office machinery meeting rooms etc. on occasion
  • Able to operate computers and other office devices such as printers and copy machines
  • Able to transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion

  • Up to 25
