The Board administers the Labour Relations Code the Public Service Employee Relations Act the Police Officers Collective Bargaining Act and the Public Education Collective Bargaining Act. The Board is also responsible for appeals under Employment Standards and Occupational Health and Safety legislation as well as adjudicating remedies for reprisals under the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.

The Alberta Labour Board offers a unique and challenging opportunity for a labour relations professional with strong investigative research analytical and communications skills.
In your role as a Labour Relations Officer your primary responsibility will be to investigate a variety of applications submitted to the Board. These applications range from determining trade union bargaining rights and unfair labour practice complaints to supervising and conducting votes.
Your research and critical thinking skills are crucial in determining which policies decisions collective agreements and legislation apply to each application. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential in gathering and analyzing all background information and preparing comprehensive reports on cases to support the adjudication process.
In your daily interactions with stakeholders and members of the public your strong communication and interpersonal skills will assist you in managing high stake conversations. You will use your mediation/facilitation skills and knowledge of issues behaviours and attitudes influencing each application to engage in settlement discussions to successfully resolve disputes. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under tight timelines are required to meet the multiple demands of this position. This role involves using online video conferencing (Zoom WebEx Teams) extensively.
