The City of Victoria is seeking a creative and detailoriented Transportation Planner to shape the future of mobility in our community. In this role our successful candidate will lead and develop transportation policies processes and programs that prioritize sustainable mobility and strategically integrate these initiatives into land use planning street renewal projects curb management and programming.

As our Transportation Planner you will play a supporting role in evaluating and making recommendations on transportationrelated aspects of development. Our ideal candidate will possess exceptional engagement skills and excel at collaborating with diverse stakeholders and fostering partnerships to drive impactful results. Expertise in parking policy and planning is a valuable asset.

WORK FROM HOME

The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid work from home arrangement in alignment with the Citys Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.

FLEX

The successful candidate for this vacancy would participate in a modified work week earning a flex day off each biweekly period by working additional time each day. Modified work weeks established in accordance with the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement and are subject to change.

POSITION FUNCTION

Direct and develop transportation planning and engineering programs procedures bylaws and policies; support the transportation design process and land use development activities.

KEY DUTIES

Administer and develop transportation planning programs procedures bylaws and policies in support of the Citys mobility strategy Go Victoria. Apply geometric design standards road safety principles and land use policies to City and private development projects. Provide conceptual direction to transportation infrastructure designs; research develop and administer transportation demand management vision zero curbuse management transit and new mobility programs to address safety congestion and environmental concerns.

Coordinate the review of development and building permit applications and conceptual designs to determine alignment changes to streets and intersections; develop and administer contracts for transportation studies conducted by consultants.

Provide work direction and instruction to other staff as required; consult and collaboratively work with other staff to support planning related solutions and recommendations for management team.

Represent the department at various advisory committee Council community and special interest and public meetings; liaise with Planning Department staff; prepare and present reports with recommendations on changes to existing policies bylaws and regulations. Negotiate and secure agreements for transportation demand management and frontage improvements associated with land use changes.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is generated by development applications or enquiries and departmental objectives; special projects are assigned by supervisor.

Work is reviewed through reports to supervisor.

Issues such as policy changes are discussed with supervisor with recommendations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organize and prioritize work.

Understand and apply principles and methods of transportation planning and engineering.

Working level operation of current City word processing spreadsheet and related engineering software.

Compose and present technical reports.

Read and interpret technical information legislation engineering and architectural drawings.

Conduct research and analysis.

Maintain accurate records.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Represent the City to the public and outside agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

Technical School Diploma in Transportation Technology. 3 years)

Registration or ability to register as an Applied Science Technologist (.T. with the Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence.

Experience:

5 years of related experience.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:
