Regular FLSA exempt fulltime 80 hours per pay period

Salary range: $116656.56 $141775.20 annually

A pay period is two weeks in length that starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday. This schedule is subject to change based on the Librarys current operational need.

The 11story downtown Central Library is occupied by several hundred staff and several thousand Library users and visitors daily. Additionally 26 branch libraries located in neighborhoods throughout Seattle also receive a large number of visitors daily. This position manages the of policies and standards adopted by the Library for protection of the public volunteers and staff and to secure personal and Library property and assets. The position reports to the Administrative Services Director.

The Library Environment and Security Services Manager functions as part of a management team that provides systemwide support for the Librarys facilities and security operations. The position interacts with other Library managers supervisors and staff to coordinate security and safety responses. This position communicates and interprets policies and procedures assists with evaluating security needs and plans security activities and programs. This position leads the implementation of safety and security standards and recommends and plans program improvements.

The Library Environment and Security Services Manager spends the majority of their time with the supervision of the security program. The position works directly with the Security and Safety Services Supervisor the Security Analyst and the Administrative Specialist in maintaining and developing the administrative processes procedures data management systems and records required by the security and safety program.

The Library Environment and Security Services Manager through the Safety Services Supervisor and Security Officers oversees and enforce the Librarys Rules of Conduct and Community Use Agreement receives and acts on information about security issues and trends across the library system as a whole. Activities can include gathering information from management and staff to understand impact of security practices and policies organizing and delivering training on security policies identifying resources needs and opportunities to collaborate with other City entities including the CARE team and Seattle Police Department.

The Library Environment and Security Services Manager generates and reviews reports with statistical data as needed. This position may also review and recommend exclusion lengths for violations noted in the security incident reports.

The Library Environment and Security Services Manager may also represent the security/safety unit with issues such as entrance control systems building fire/safety alarm systems and staffing the Librarys emergency operations activities.

  • Experience working as a supervisor/leader.
  • Experience managing and/or providing services to atrisk populations people affected by housing insecurity substances abuse and poverty.
  • Experience with deescalation trauma informed care and/or restorative practices.
  • Skill at exercising the kinds of judgment and initiative required of security operations in public service environment.
