Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industryleading optical solutions across the broader communications segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for opticalbased communications infrastructure for services such as video data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of opticalbased communication networks sold to businesses governments and individuals for their own use.
Position Summary:
Works with other team members to solve difficult technical engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost.
Day to Day Tasks:
Provide engineeringlevel production support to manufacturing operation.
Solve process issues through data analysis experimentation and collaboration with subject matter experts.
Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans.
Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction process optimization and new products/processes.
Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment.
Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.
Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines.
Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.
Travel:
Less than 5.
Hours of Work/Work Schedule/FlexTime:
810 hours/day; 4050 hours/week.
This position requires offhours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with coworkers.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Required Skills & Education:
BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Chemical Materials Mechanical or Ceramic Engineering.
25 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing/production environment
Utilization of scientific method and engineering first principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively using welldesigned and executed processes
Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.
Creative/innovative problem solving.
Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills.
Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access (queries databases).
Experience with experimental design.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization.
Works well in a team environment
Desired Skills:
Six Sigma Greenbelt certification.
Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting.
Project management experience.
Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab JMP Access etc.
Experience with polymer or acrylate coatings.
Experience with glass forming and coating processes.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $82157.00 $112966.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of jobrelated factors including but not limited to geographic location market demands experience training and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical dental vision 401(k) plan pension plan life insurance coverage disability benefits and PTO.
