Established in 1978 SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care health promotion community development mental health and harm reduction. Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Children and Youth Services the Community Programmer: Youth Leadership will assist in developing programming and cofacilitates the Youth Leadership Program; providing field placement guidance and support and to assist in the development of youth led community initiatives within a community development framework.
Job Specific Responsibilities
Assists in planning and implements activities that enhance positive leadership qualities preparing youth 1318 yrs. to become volunteers
Creates opportunities for youth to reflect on their wellbeing and potential
Liaisons with SWCHC staff and other community partners if needed
Assists in conducting recruitment registration maintain files and daily attendance
Assists in monitoring and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for programming
Ensures all programming meets Health and Safety Standards
Qualifications
Police check for working with vulnerable populations no older than 6 months
Current Standard First Aid CPR level C
Strong knowledge of youth development
Effective at communicating and problem solving
Experience and flexibility working in diverse communitybased programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers
Experience and proven success working with youth 1318yrs.
Knowledge of community resources
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position and the individual hired must be:
(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
(b) a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act S.C. 2001 c. 27*; and
(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
