The Pest Management Operations section is hiring Labourer IIs to complete tasks in the following areas: Landscape Biting Fly Outdoor Rodent and Structural Pest. These positions operate various pieces of equipment involved in pesticide/insecticide application including backpack sprayers.
What will you do
- Working alongside a Pest Control Operator for the application of pesticides monitoring and other control measures for insect pests (mosquitoes caterpillars aphids sawflies leaf miners wasps hornets bees and ants that have become a nuisance etc) for small mammal pests (beaver ground squirrel gopher bats etc) and structural pests (mice silverfish birds cockroaches)
- Pre and posttreatment inspections to determine areas to be treated and effectiveness of the applications
- Perform minor maintenance and calibration on equipment used
- Record daily chemical summaries of materials used areas treated and pests controlled
- Responsible for checking requests for service and complaints from the public
- Perform related administrative tasks and duties as required such as completing time sheets journals etc.
- Conducting job duties in a safe manner in compliance with City and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation regulations codes policies and competency training
- Perform other duties as required

- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum 1 year of labour experience including experience in pesticide application
Assets:
- Valid Pesticide Applicators license in Biting Fly Landscape or Core
- Experience with All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated customer service skills including the ability to deal with the public
- Basic understanding for the care and operation of truck mounted equipment
- Ability to operate service and maintain various types of pesticide application equipment
- Ability to operate GPS and other digital devices

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator. Compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position including the ability to lift 55 lbs
Work Environment:
- Sunday Saturday work schedule with the possibility of shift work
