We are currently seeking one fulltime contract Communications and Social Media Assistant as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program!


Canada Summer Jobs is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) which aims to provide quality summer employment opportunities for youth to develop skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.


The Communications and Social Media Assistant will support the planning and of CMHA Peel Dufferins communications and promotional initiatives.


Reporting to the Director Clinical Support Services the Communications and Social Media Assistant has the responsibility for supporting the development and implementation of communications and marketing campaigns and events including website and collateral updates as required.


Status: 8week contract fulltime 35 hours per week (anticipated contract dates will fall between May 2025 and August 2025; Work hours will generally fall between 8:00 am and 5:00pm. Note this posting is for an active vacancy.


Hourly rate: $18.20


Location: This position is based out of ourHurontario Brampton ON office. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model staff are required to have onsite and/or community presence as per program and client needs.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with the Communications Officer to create and deliver on internal and external communications and aid in the implementation of the communications and social media plan
  • Develop collaterals and written content for various outlets including internal newsletter
  • Coordinate and deliver on specific communication requests including monitoring the ticketing systems
  • Support digital development and engagement
  • Support development of Communications plans for events and activities
  • Research write and design content for our social media sites websites and some of our emails and newsletters

What You Need to Join Our Team


Participants of Canada Summer Job roles must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Must be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must be able to work all 8 weeks consecutively

Additional Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled or completed postsecondary education in communications marketing or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in person and over the phone
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team management and clients
  • Strong computer skills and social media knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach listen build trust and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Openness to operate from an antiracist antioppressive 2SLGBTQ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity such as gender identity/expression race/cultural background religion sexual orientation disability immigration and precarious status family status etc
  • Fluency in a second language including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
  • Ability to travel within and around Peel Region as required
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
