As a Senior Laboratory Officer at the University of Melbourne youll play a crucial role in managing teaching laboratories for the School of Agriculture Food & Ecosystem Science and Melbourne Veterinary School. Youll lead a team of laboratory officers ensuring topnotch technical support for teaching activities across agricultural veterinary and food disciplines. This role offers you the chance to contribute to the development of future scientists while working in a dynamic multicampus environment.

The team of Laboratory Officers are based at the Facultys Parkville Werribee and Dookie campuses. The primary location of this position will be at Parkville at the time of appointment however the position will be expected to work from and attend other sites and campuses from time to time if required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Technical Operations: Oversee laboratory preparation maintenance and safety compliance across multiple disciplines and campuses.
  • Manage Resources and Staff: Coordinate laboratory officers manage inventories and ensure efficient use of equipment and materials.
  • Provide Expert Guidance: Advise academic staff on laboratory resources and contribute to the development of practical classes.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement service improvements fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

You may be a great fit if:

You are an experienced laboratory professional with a relevant degree in biology possessing strong technical expertise leadership skills and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement in a teaching laboratory setting.

You may also:

  • Have extensive experience in a similar role within a scientific or educational setting.
  • Possess expertise in scientific procedures and laboratory equipment operation.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills and the ability to balance competing demands.
  • Have a proven track record in developing systems for service improvement.
  • Show excellent teamwork and mentoring abilities.
