Capital Ones People Tech Engineering Organization is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead manage mentor and build exceptional software engineering teams to deliver game changing technologies. We are on a mission to transform our organization by building an innovation infrastructure and mindset so that we can deliver on bold goals and OKRs. The Sr. Director must have the ability to attract and recruit the industrys best talent and simultaneously have the technical chops to ensure that we build compelling customer focused solutions in an iterative methodology. The People Tech Engineering Organization is the Technology arm for 10 business partners providing staff tech functions for Capital One associates.
As a candidate for this role youre able to seamlessly switch from diving deep into technology with engineers to driving highlevel strategic discussions. You are a naturally curious technologist and stay on top of emerging trends including handson prototyping of nascent technologies. You are not afraid to question any existing processes and solutions yet you display a keen sense of business value proposition and focus on the right priorities.
The person were looking for:
Lead manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
Work with product leaders to define the strategy roadmap and destination architecture helping establish a product mindset within the organization and business partners
Manage a portfolio of diverse technology platforms and projects to build scalable applications that meet our customer needs
Continuously improve software engineering practices
Work within and across Agile teams to design develop test implement and support technical solutions across a fullstack of development tools and technologies
Lead the craftsmanship availability resilience and scalability of your solutions
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends experiment with and learn new technologies participate in internal & external technology communities and mentor other members of the engineering community
Encourage innovation implementation of cuttingedge technologies inclusion outsideofthebox thinking teamwork selforganization and diversity
Has the ability to inspire a shared vision for their organization
Fosters a positive and engaging environment by building strong relationships influencing others effectively and creating meaningful connections with team members and stakeholders
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
At least 9 years of experience with enterprise architecture software architecture or design patterns
At least 10 years of people management experience
At least 5 years of Leader of Leaders experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree
15 years of experience working with business leaders on the implications of technology decisions
10 years of experience with complex architectural patterns building APIs microservices and event streams
10 years in engineering delivery
Proven experience building a Technology Strategy
Extensive Cloud Architecture experience
Strong executive communications skills
AWS Experience

The minimum and maximum fulltime annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for parttime roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Richmond VA: $280600 $320200 for Sr. Dir Software EngineeringCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
