ABOUT THE ROLE
This position is one of the key external faces of SOCANs Membership Department within the music industry. The role involves building and maintaining both creative and business relationships with emerging and established music creators and music publishers in Qubec and Francophone communities in Canada across multiple sectors including songwriting music publishing and audiovisual composition.
The Creative Executive Qubec plays a critical role in both member recruitment and retention by offering highlevel creative support music business education and by connecting members to the broader ecosystem. The role is designed to support members at all stages of their careers from earlystage creators to highprofile established professionals.
The position works in close collaboration with the Executive Director Qubec Affairs and contributes to initiatives while also supporting the of key partnerships and regional industry engagement.
The knowledge of English is required for this position as the position requires to interact on a constant and regular basis with Englishspeaking members/clients.
WHAT YOULL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively recruit Canadian music creators by scouting for emerging songwriters music publishers and audiovisual composers who have the potential to be relevant in various music genres (e.g. audiovisual music pop electronic rock hip hop R&B etc.
- Proactively research social media and digital music platforms to identify emerging Canadian music creators and trends.
- Build relationships with emerging and established music creators and publishers (and their business teams) by meeting with them listening to their music attending their shows and discussing their career aspirations and needs from a creative and business perspective.
- Provide proactive personalized support to established members by identifying opportunities to grow their creative and financial success and by helping them navigate SOCANs services and tools.
- Support and maintain strong connections with SOCANs music publishing and audiovisual music communities.
- Ensure that potential and existing SOCAN members and key influencers understand SOCAN and how it impacts their careers by explaining our distribution process licensing and royalty information in efforts to get them paid.
- Proactively identify members at risk of leaving SOCAN. Use creative strategies and timely management of termination requests to encourage members to maintain membership with SOCAN.
- Strategically analyze member earnings trends and prepare financial reports to maximize members SOCAN experience.
- Create career opportunities for members by introducing songwriters and composers to applicable creative and industry members to further their careers (i.e. music publishers managers agents and record labels).
- Facilitate creative opportunities for members such as planning and executing songwriting camps and workshops songwriting collaborations master production classes and business seminars.
- Learn the business processes of foreign PROs and build relationships with them to add value for members and to maximize financial impact on their foreign royalties.
- Engage people using social media and other resources to promote members and SOCAN to their peers key influencers in the music ecosystem and the public in general.
- Attend shows events and festivals that could occur evenings and weekends
- Travel up to 25 of the year
WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years experience working in the music industry
- At least 5 additional years as a working professional in similar or related industries
- Strong knowledge of the Qubec music industry Francophone markets in Canada and its creative communities including songwriters music publishers and audiovisual composers
- Excellent understanding of and connections within the Francophone and Qubec music ecosystem across various genres and sectors
- Experience working with both emerging and established creators and publishers with the ability to tailor support and opportunities to different career levels
- Ear for music / nose for talent / ability to identify upandcoming music creators who have the potential to grow their careers/business
- Social Media Savvy ability to interpret stats and trends
- Ability to handle administration
- Ability to fit into a corporate environment / team culture
- Knowledge of and extensive contacts within the music industry
- General understanding of music production music creation and music publishing
- Ability to relate to creative people
- Knowledge of SOCAN performing rights and copyright
- Ability to network connect and bring people together
