Job Description

General Summary of the Position:

The Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences (BNS) part of the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences (ZCHS) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) is seeking parttime Adjunct Instructors to teach in the undergraduate Applied Biomedical Sciences (ABS) program which includes a NAACLSaccredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. This posting is to ensure that we have strong candidates in our adjunct instructor pool for any immediate and/or future needs. There are a variety of teaching opportunities in both lecture and laboratory courses. Selected candidates will become an integral part of the program working in collaboration with fulltime ABS program faculty and staff many of whom are MLS(ASCP) certified. Teaching opportunities may vary by semester.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in a relevant science field with proper experience for laboratory courses (masters or higher preferred) and a minimum of a masters degree for lecture courses (doctoral preferred but masters with special skills and/or proper experience will be considered).
  • The desire and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates having previous teaching experience at the university/college level are most desirable and will be given priority.
  • Candidates having both a graduate degree and MLS(ASCP) certification will be given priority.
  • Candidates with qualifications to teach in more than one area or program will be given priority.
  • Some MLSspecific courses will require demonstrated and suitable yearslong training and work experience in an MLS environment including MLS(ASCP) certification.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a parttime nonbenefited position under the Union of Adjunct Faculty Local 1596 UAW. Please include a current CV and cover letter with your names and contact information of three references may be requested upon completion of a screening interview. Submission of a teaching philosophy teaching evaluations and evidence of teaching is optional. Applicants will be reviewed if/when needed until a hire is made. The position may close within one year if no one is hired at which time the posting would be refreshed to rebuild the adjunct pool.
