The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Highways & Aviation is looking for a Rural Airport Foreman in Bethel to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:
As the Rural Airport Foreman in Bethel for the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities youll play a vital role in keeping Alaska connected. Youll lead a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep and safe operation of rural highways airports (including a certificated FAA Part 139 and TSA 1542 airport) seaplane floats bridges and docks.

Your days will be variedoverseeing snow removal operations performing critical infrastructure inspections managing airport compliance with FAA TSA and State regulations and ensuring our transportation assets are fully functional for the public. Youll also supervise equipment operators and ensure that safety and maintenance standards are consistently met.

The Bethel Maintenance Station is made up of 9 staff who work cooperatively to operate and maintain regulatory certification and compliance of this important FAR Part 139 and TSA 1542 airport State Highways and Roads. This also includes rural airports across approximately 40000 square miles of Southwest Alaska. We are the moving in the DOT&PF mission to Keep Alaska Moving through Service and Infrastructure!.

Our crews maintain the airport and roadways in all conditions year around. Whether plowing snow in near whiteout conditions; maintaining roadways safely for the traveling public; repairing asphalt on paved surfaces; conducting security inspections on airport; maintaining airport lighting systems; clearing rightsofway and airport safety areas of vegetation overgrowth; these are just a few of the situations you can find us in while making the difficult seem routine day after day. We truly keep Alaska moving!

Class A Commercial Drivers License;
AND
Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of highways and/or airports;
AND
Qualifications to operate all required equipment at the duty station.

Special Note:
Some positions require a Hazardous Materials endorsement.
Some positions require American Traffic Safety Services Association training.
Positions require a First Aid ETT CPR First Responder and ARFF certification 14 CFR Part 139 and Airport Security Coordinator certification 49 CFR Part 15f42.
Incumbents of positions in this job class are required to pass a criminal background check and are required to be fingerprinted.
Some positions may be required to use a firearm or ammunition and are therefore subject to Title 18 United States Code Section 922(g)9 which prohibits persons who have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from owning possessing or using a firearm or ammunition.

Note:
Incumbents of positions that require a Commercial Drivers license are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) per federal regulations 49 CFR 383 to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety sensitive duties and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

  • AClass AAlaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an NTanker endorsement within 90 days of hireand sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOTstart work in a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required PreEmployment drug test. According to federal regulations all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.


ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT

This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL104208.

A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence means an offense that:

is a misdemeanor under Federal or State Law; and has as an element the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon committed by a current or former spouse parent or guardian of the victim by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse parent or guardian of the victim.
