The geographic information system office within the IT department is seeking two students to participate in a parttime internship as a geographic information system (GIS) intern to help support all of Hennepin County with access to spatial data products for informed decision making. The GIS Interns will work on a wide variety of geospatial projects applying cartographic and analysis skills. Responsibilities of the GIS Interns may include map creation data development processing of aerial imagery and development of lidar derivative products. This position requires a level 3 security check as a requirement for employment.

Location and hours:
These positions are remote. Remote workers may be required to come onsite an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings trainings or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. 5 p.m. (a minimum of 20 hours/week). These internships will start in June 2025 and will last two years in duration.While these positions are designated as remote hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota.

In these positions you will:- Assist in map creation.
- Provide data support data editing and spatial analysis.
- Perform aerial image processing and aerial imagery rectification.
- Perform GIS technical tasks related to updating creating and maintaining enterprise geodatabase layers.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Need to have:- Current enrollment or recent graduate (within 6 months) in a masters degree program in geographic information system or a related field.
- Access to reliable internet access and selfsupport remote office space.
Nice to have:- Experience:
- Using Esri ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Online ArcGIS Enterpriseand related apps) to create maps and perform spatial analysis tasks.
- With data editing cartography and spatial analysis
- Knowledge of cartographic principles and experience creating visually appealing maps.
- Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with project team and product end users.
- Complete project work on time.
- Collaborate around a common cause to create appropriate GIS solutions.
- Work independently at times.
