Description

Temporary FullTime NonTenure Track Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Sculpture

The Department of Art invites applications for a fulltime nontenuretrack position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor specializing in Sculpture. We seek a dynamic and innovative artisteducator with expertise in a broad range of sculptural techniques and materials. Areas of departmental interest include but are not limited to wood and stone carving steel fabrication welding bronze casting 3D/4D printing moldmaking methods and installation practices.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching advising and mentoring students while maintaining an active professional practice. Faculty members are expected to contribute to departmental and university service including participation in faculty meetings committee work and student recruitment efforts. The position also requires maintaining student and department records in accordance with university policies and fostering a collaborative academic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach three studio courses 13.5 contact hours) per semester across all levels of sculpture including 3D fundamentals introductory intermediate and advanced sculpture courses.
  • Develop and deliver a curriculum that integrates traditional and contemporary sculptural methods materials and conceptual approaches.
  • Foster a thoughtful and engaging teaching approach that supports student growth through inquirybased learning and handson experimentation with materials.
  • Advise and mentor students in academic and professional development.
  • Maintain an active and ongoing exhibition and scholarly record.
  • Engage in service at the departmental college and university levels including committee participation and student recruitment efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture.
  • Minimum of two years of fulltime collegelevel teaching experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary and historical art craft and design practices.
  • Demonstrated professional studio practice with a strong record of exhibitions and scholarly activity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with online learning management systems (e.g. D2L).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach online and hybrid courses.
  • Proven track record of community engagement and student mentorship.
