As an accredited public health department were seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Laboratory Specialist Supervisor 2nd Shift Accessioning Unit)to join the Division of MedicalClinical Services Public Health Laboratory located in Decatur GA.

The incumbent of this position supervises guides and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. In addition supervises daily operations compliance with safety procedures and reviews testing reports for validity and accuracy. Performs technical duties as required.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university certification as a Medical Technologist MT (ASCP) and four 4 years of jobrelated science experience; or two 2 years of experience at the lower level Medical/Clinical Specialist 3 (LSP012 or equivalent position.


Education & Licensure Requirements:

Must possess an earned bachelors degree in biology microbiology chemistry or related fields; and must either be certified or eligible for certification by an accepted certifying agency. Must submit international evaluation if degree was granted by a foreign educational institution.

Must meet Federal CLIA 88 personnel requirements for General Supervisor in a highcomplexity laboratory.
possess certification as a Medical Technologist (MT)at the time of hire

OR

2 Years of supervisory experience at the time of hire and pass an approved certifying examination within eighteen 18 months of hire date as a condition of employment.

  • Demonstrated success supervising a work unit in a public health laboratory or regulated microbiology/molecular diagnostic laboratory.

  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.

Additional Information

Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and wellbeing.

The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities generally in the form of two 15minute breaks or one 30minute break.

Employment Information

All approved teleworking employees must reside within the state of Georgia and depending on the responsibilities of the position must live within reasonable driving distance of the agencys primary worksite and beable to report to the office when required.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree diploma licensure etc.

The candidate selected for this position may be subject to preemployment drug screening and a criminal background check.
