Job Description Summary

Will be responsible for supporting the GE Vernova Financial Services commercial teams on new thermal energy and renewable energy transactions including due diligence evaluating environmental risks guidance on permitting and environmental requirements and drafting environmental provisions in deal documentation. Primary location for role is in Stamford CT or New York NY; will consider Washington D.C.

Job Description

Role Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite environmental risks in energy project finance transactions both in North America and International jurisdictions.
  • Manage the environmental and permitting aspects of multiple transactions and portfolio matters within a highpaced environment including prioritizing conflicting demands from a large and diverse client base.
  • Analyze key U.S. environmental laws regulations and permitting requirements including under the Clean Air Act Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act and/or key U.K. European Union and other international jurisdiction environmental laws regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Lead environmental due diligence reviews and assume a major role in advising commercial/deal teams on environmental issues and key environmental provisions in deal documentation and financial models.
  • Present/review transactions with the senior leadership team to enable strategic priorities.
  • Supervise outside counsel and consultants on environmental due diligence reviews and preparation of permit applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent and a member of or qualified in a recognized U.S. or U.K. Bar.
  • 7 years of experience in U.S. and international transactions analyzing environmental and permitting and related issues based on work at a large law firm financial services organization or corporate legal department.
  • Experience in working on earlystage project development including initiating environmental studies interactions with government agency staff and preparing permit applications.
  • Position will require occasional travel.

Desired Characteristics

  • Familiarity with World Bank Guidelines International Finance Corporation Performance Standards and the Equator Principles.
  • Function independently and effectively as a member of commercial teams in addition to the legal team.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Indepth experience with environmental due diligence reviews analyzing environmental reports and drafting environmental provisions in transaction documents.
  • Experience in evaluating and managing environmental risk within the financial services industry including an ability to understand all facets of financial services such as equity investments secured lending and asset management.
  • Experience with joint venture transactions including Joint Development Agreements and Shareholder Agreements.
  • Experience in managing real estate and related land contract issues.
  • Established ability to influence actions without direct leadership responsibility for teams or processes and experience in building relationships with multiple stakeholders within the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with senior management.
  • Proven leadership and business partnering skills.
  • Experience leading successful negotiations on permit applications permit conditions environmental remediation agreements and environmental/permitting representations warranties and covenants in transaction documents.
  • Experience in leading or participating in advocacy efforts to advance positions before federal and state legislatures governmental agencies and local community organizations.
  • Previous experience in the energy industry including thermal and renewable energy power generation.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages.

Please note that we are targeting for the selected candidate to start in this role in June 2025.
The base salary range for this position is $200000 to $255000 USD. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience. In addition to base pay this position is eligible for a discretionary annual target bonus.
