Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Required to perform the duties of this position are: three 3 years of experience in a highway maintenance environment and one 1 year experience in herbicide application

oOR three 3 years of herbicide application and noxious control experience and one 1 year of highway maintenance experience.

A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A Type II) with no restrictions a tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiners Certificate (MEC). Obtain and maintain an Applicators License including for the use of restricted herbicides within 4 months of hire date.

Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 miles of the work headquarters and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.

Other Qualifications:

Requires knowledge of noxious and nuisance identification restricted herbicide application and storage procedures and the calibration and maintenance of equipment typically assigned to herbicide management operations herbicide safe handling procedures. Knowledge of state laws applying to roadside vegetation management basic math and record keeping procedures.

Requires the ability to manage and train employees to apply herbicide per state law. Ability to communicate effectively with staff state and local agencies and the public.

A working knowledge of the Maintenance Manual the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standard drawings traffic engineering manual and traffic control administration in conjunction with contracted control and assigns onsite work and instructs trains mentors and monitors staff on roadside vegetation management procedures and operations.

TheMontana Department of Transportationis recruiting aVegetation and Noxious Spray Foreman. This position performs a variety of work as a laborer equipment operator and truck driver in conjunction with lead worker duties as a vegetation manager and noxious spray foreman. Has knowledge of union contracts. Participates in the coordination and delivery of the Division Area vegetation and roadside management the growing season (pre and post) performs work as an herbicide spray truck operator/driver and oversees minor repairs and calibration of the herbicide spray truck equipment.
