Position Announcement:
The Department of English seeks a OneYear FullTime Lecturer for. This position may be renewable each year with satisfactory performance. The Department of English at the University of Central Oklahoma is committed to recruiting and maintaining a diverse faculty and to creating a welcoming environment for all.
Position Overview:
Teaches advises and mentors students; evaluates student performance; and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department college and university committees as requested.
College/Department Overview:
The College of Liberal Arts currently has 130 fulltime and 82 parttime faculty in 8 academic departments. The College serves the Universitys Core Curriculum programs and enrolls more than 2850 undergraduate students and more than 300 graduate students in 34 undergraduate and 17 graduate majors. The teaching load is 15 credithours (which is typically five courses) per semester. Primary teaching responsibilities could include Developmental English and FirstYear Composition as well as concurrent sections of FirstYear Composition taught offsite in local high schools; courses in other areas may be assigned as departmental need requires.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Required: An M.A. or MFA in English or a closely related field and a commitment to highquality teaching are required. Preferred: Preference will be given to applicants whose degree is in Composition and/or Rhetoric or a related field and who have at least two years of experience teaching FirstYear Composition in a college or university setting.
