Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Three 3 years of experience in inspection or the construction trades with working knowledge of the Oregon Residential Codes; and
- Possession of at least one of the following certifications by hire:
- ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification (B1
- Oregon Residential Structural/Mechanical Inspector (CAS); and
- Obtainment of the following certifications within one year of hire:
- Residential Plans Examiner (CAX)
- Residential Plumbing Inspector (CAP)
Preferred Qualifications:- Prior construction inspection and plan review experience.

Effective July 1 2025 the salary schedule shall be increased by a 2.0 salary adjustment
plus a 2.5 costofliving adjustment (COLA).Certification Pay Differential:
This position may be eligible for additional pay based on certifications. Employees who obtain the following certifications may receive a 5 pay differential per certification up to a maximum of 10 additional pay:
- CAE(Residential Electrical Inspector)
- CAP(Residential Plumbing Inspector)
- MIA(Mechanical Inspector ALevel)
- PEF(Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner)
- SIA(Structural/Mechanical Inspector)
The anticipated hiring range for the Residential Inspectorposition is $31.37(first step) to $32.94or $34.59(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education experience andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Schedules and conducts inspections of residential structures under construction to ensure compliance with local and state building codes.
- Inspect structural work and mechanical systems at several phases during construction or installation.
- Reviews plans and ensures construction meets specifications required by plans.
- Signs off permits or issues stop work orders; investigates complaints of structural or mechanical code violations and issues citations as necessary.
- Notifies builders and owners of code violations and reinspects structures.
- Prepares inspection reports maintains records and consults with Plans Examiner regarding changes or variations in plans.
- Serves as the contact for inquiries regarding building construction inspections.
- Provides technical advice and information to architects engineers contractors craftsmen property owners maintenance personnel and citizens regarding state and local building code requirements and installation procedures.
- Maintains updates to current codes for inspection and plan review.
- The scope of the assigned area will depend on the departmental structure and is as the discretion of the department director.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This job performs work both in an office environment and in the field. When in an office environment work is conducted in regulated environmental conditions. This role involves time spent sitting at a desk working on a computer. The noise level is typically moderate to medium. When fieldwork is required you will be exposed to the elements (rain heat cold) and work within congested traffic areas. The outside work environment can include walking on uneven terrain. This environment may also include interactions with the public.
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. This position requires extended periods of standing walking and sitting. Must be able to crouch bend stoop twist turn and balance. The employee regularly operates various office equipment including computers printers copy machines calculators and telephones.
