POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position supports the Career Studio by managing career studio operations; counsels students on career readiness; provides career planning through critical career platforms; offers advising and support; and serves as a versatile member of the career studio.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree required Masters Degree preferred
- Experience developing student programming preferred
- A minimum of twotothree years of experience working with students in a higher education setting related to academic advising student support service and/or career exploration
DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE POSITION:
Manages Career Studio operations by:
- Developing and maintaining a positive and supportive relationship with students faculty and staff that welcomes them to our learning community and ensures a consistent studentsupport resource
- Developing and maintaining employer relations with our external community employers and partners as it relates to employment opportunities
- Assisting students with identification of long term goals and career plans
- Collaborating and working closely with multiple departments/offices throughout campus including but not limited to Academic Affairs Advancement Admissions Athletics Campus Life Financial Aid Registrars Office etc. to maximize the student experience
- Communicating with department chairs/program directors on student/degree program matters as appropriate staying current on all curriculum changes/requirements
- Engaging in classroom presentations and campus programming (inperson and online)
- Conducting planned programs for outreach to students faculty and employers to advertise and promote Career Studio Services
- Assisting with recommendations for website updates related to Career Studio support services
- Assisting in the development of a budget supervises expenditures and maintains fiscal responsibility
Counsels students on Career Readiness by:
- Designing and planning careerreadiness programming per academic year
- Coordinating applications and the review process for Careers for the Community Stipend
- Managing Emerging Leaders Council cohort
- Internships Partnering with department chairs to collect and manage internship requirements per academic department advising students and employer partners accordingly
- Graduate Assistantships Working in partnership with HR Finance and campus departments to develop and maintain GA structuring and processes
- Assisting in the outreach efforts of building partnerships with external constituencies to create internships placements networking and graduate school opportunities
- Working collaboratively with Associate Director ACE to coordinate careerreadiness pertaining to FYE Seminar and SYE Program(s)
- Collaborates with the Mercy Center and Associate Dean to create more CBL opportunities for students
- Collaborating with alumni faculty and staff ensuring career planning is relevant and updated
- Assisting students with graduate school preparation including personal statements application submissions and deadlines and collaborating with faculty on workshops for graduate school planning
- Developing and administering highquality services for Career Studio services which include professional skills development job search strategies resume preparation and cover letter workshops mock interviews and other careerrelated services
- Being responsible for tracking assessing and evaluating efforts supporting undergraduate student career development and connectivity within the academic units
Provides career planning through critical career platforms by:
- Overseeing social media branding digital updates and online platforms under the supervision of the Associate Dean Academic Success and Retention directly related to career support programming
- Providing career planning through critical career platforms; i.e. Handshake and LinkedIn
- Coordinating campus logistics for Career Fair; invite Employers coordinate with Events Marketing and Communications and Campus Partners
- Collecting data and assesses key metrics for consumer information
- Serving as the Liaison to career software platform representatives for troubleshooting and daytoday operations
- Effectively managing the careerrelated software; i.e. Handshake; Including website management
- Training studentworkers and assisting with sending all targeted job/internship/professional development informational emails
- Managing First Destination Survey
- Managing Handshake Resource Library to continually provide and update careerreadiness resources including resume templates webinars and presentations
Offers advising and support by:
- Collaborating with and supporting the efforts of team members who focus on career program review student success and institutional planning
- Assisting Career in defining developing and managing project plans for studentworker training and career supportrelated programming
- Supporting Career on career curriculum course content structure and activities; i.e. studentworker support
- Providing administrative support for survey development student retention data collection and analysis
- Assisting with preparing instruments for research collection; i.e. surveys student interviews and evaluation data
- Assisting as necessary in proposal preparation and submission including but not limited to basic editing graphics coordination proposal and submission management
- Supporting Undeclared students with their transition to SJC
- Providing Undeclared students curricular information assisting in selecting and scheduling courses monitor academic performance
- Conducting ongoing personal research and training relevant to Advising best practices
Serves as a versatile member of Career Studio by:
- Supporting a small caseload of StudentAthletes; identified by the Athletic Coaching Staff
- Interpreting College policies procedures and requirements to students
- Attending and assisting at events for prospective admitted and new students as needed
- Assisting in the of the Academic Research Fair (twice a year) Delta Induction and Academic Awards Ceremony
- Serving on committees both formally and ad hoc as assigned
