The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority East (SLFPAE) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish the east bank of Orleans Parish and the east bank of Jefferson Parish within its control in order to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events.

The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Levee Foreman B Maintenance Superintendent Operations and Maintenance Coordinator or the Maintenance Regional Director.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To operate heavy mobile equipment to accomplish transportation maintenance or construction tasks.

Level of Work:
Advanced.

Supervision Received:
General from a Foreman or other higher level maintenance supervisory or administrative personnel.

Supervision Exercised:
Functional over lower graded equipment operators or laboring personnel as needed.

Location of Work:
May be used by all agencies statewide.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the requirement to operate heavier mobile equipment that has more complicated operating and handling characteristics.

Differs from Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction that operation of mobile cranes draglines pile drivers or locomotives is only an occasional function of the Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator 1 and does not constitute the primary regular and recurring function for this job.

Examples of Work

The incumbent in this position performs a physical effort to accomplish a variety of tasks in the Maintenance Department of the SLFPAE as follows:

Operates heavy motorized equipment including but not limited to: dozers tandem and bobtail dump trucks loaders skidsteers backhoes water trucks street sweepers excavators and other specialized equipment to support a variety of operations under the jurisdiction of the SLFPAE.

Assists in grass cutting activities when needed or conditions warrant by picking up trash cutting weeds and brush and operating tractors equipped for grass cutting on property owned or maintained by the SLFPAE. Assists other personnel within the SLFPAE with floodgate valves and relief wells operation and maintenance.

Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment prior to beginning work. Reports to supervisor any required repairs needed on equipment.

Filling of new sandbags as required and handling of sandbags as required. Performs any and all other related duties as needed or assigned by other higherranking supervisors directors or administrative personnel.

Incumbents are required to have and maintain a Class A CDL drivers license.

NOTE: SLFPAE is an emergencyoriented agency. Part of the SLFPAEs mission is to protect the residents of the east bank of Jefferson Parish St. Bernard Parish and the east bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge winddriven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane / Tropical Storm events the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if required remaining on duty until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
