Recruitment Range: $53164 $73101
**Position is eligible for a hybrid remote teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours.**
Position provides direct interpretation/transliteration services to DSDHH staff primarily those in the central/administrative office. This position is responsible for evaluating and assessing communication access needs in order to provide coordination support to the Interpreter for the Director providing mentoring or interpreter skill development opportunities consultation to interpreters seeking licensure. This position may also provide occasional consultation to the Department of Health and Human Services and other entities regarding Communication Access use of interpreters and interpreter licensure.Job responsibilities include:
- Provide appropriate interpreting services to DSDHH staff including Tactile ASL
- Support the Communication Access Team with service coordination
- Provide mentoring to other staff or community interpreters
- Support the Interpreter Development Coordinator in the planning and provision of workshops
- Provide information related to interpreting including state and federal laws NC licensure and certification

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:- Advanced interpreting skills both sign to voice and voice to sign including the ability to interpret and transliterate in a variety of settings for a variety of customers and with various registers including formal and intimate while accurately representing the message of the speaker(s).
- Thorough knowledge of deafness deaf culture American Sign Language interpreting practices and processing models.
- Experience with monitoring assessing and evaluate interpreting skills in others.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in an interpreter training program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional interpreting experience in a community business or government program;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification:If applicable as defined by GS 90D meets the requirements for licensure as determined by the North Carolina Interpreter and Transliterator Licensing Board.Supplemental and Contact Information
