Onsite: This position requires an employee to be onsite in Pontiac Michigan on a fulltime basis.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Motorsports Engine Controls & Calibration Development Engineer to support propulsion development activities within GMs exciting sports car racing programs! In this role you will be responsible for developing and implementing propulsion controls and calibration solutions to assist our race teams in their success on the track. You will work closely with Software Hardware and Track Support Engineers to analyze ontrack and offtrack data trends and convert these into performance efficiency drivability and reliability improvements for our road racing teams. While this role is focused primarily on engine dyno development for Corvette Racing you will also collaborate closely with your Cadillac Racing colleagues to share ideas and learnings. Opportunities also exist to support hardware software HIL DIL and analytical tool development if adequate skills and bandwidth exist.

Travel is minimal and mainly involves validating critical dynobased development work during track testing. Limited offshift support whether on weekdays or weekends may be required to meet program needs and accommodate the schedules of highdemand test facilities.

Joining the Sports Car Propulsion Team will provide you with the experience and exposure it takes to contribute to the success of our race programs by growing your engine development and calibration skills promoting innovation connecting lessons learned in racing and production vehicles and ultimately helping to shape the future of GMs Sports Car Racing programs.

What you will do:

  • Partner with the Propulsion Technical Lead to develop prioritize and execute powertrain calibration and controls development work

  • Lead the specification setup issue resolution data analysis and results reporting for dyno development tests to optimize power / torque efficiency drivability durability shift performance and related control strategies

  • Lead the creation of new or revised calibration procedures and best practices

  • Assist and advise on engine and driveline inspection installation instrumentation and operation during dyno development and validation testing

  • Perform propulsion system checks and assist in resolving communications and other issues

  • Review logged engine data to identify and communicate to appropriate team members any issues or potential performance improvements

  • Lead or assist with the creation of calibration and data analysis tools to enhance accuracy and resource efficiency

  • Collaborate with key partners to extract and correlate dyno track and simulationderived data to advance analytical model fidelity

  • Transfer knowledge across multiple disciplines and race programs as appropriate

  • Lead or support program meetings with key internal and external partners

  • When appropriate exercise your independent judgement managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal guidance

  • Support other areas of the design build and test process as needed

What youll need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree
  • 5 years working cohesively with engineers designers technicians or other partners in a high performing team environment
  • Propulsion system knowledge aligned with optimizing efficiency performance reliability and durability
  • OEM or motorsports EMS (Engine Management System) calibration and controls experience (examples: PID tuning; Torquebased controls strategy; Fuel and Spark; Gearbox shifting calibration)
  • Familiarity with common OEM or motorsports propulsion development tools such as: AVL PUMA IndiCom Concerto ETAS/INCA Bosch WinDarab Motec TAG McLaren Mega Line
  • Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects efficiently while working to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical and nontechnical information verbally and in writing
  • High proficiency in rootcause analysis and resolution techniques
  • Ability and eagerness to master new skills quickly learning independently and from others as appropriate
  • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of key internal and external partners
  • Exceptional work ethic and integrity
  • Ability to travel 5 of the time within the U.S

What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Prior Motorsports experience; Collegiate programs such as Formula SAE Baja or personal hobby engagement are considered acceptable
  • Race engine hardware and controls experience (e.g. Bosch Motorsports)
  • Engine combustion analysis experience using incylinder pressure measurement systems
  • Familiarity with CAN communications protocols and troubleshooting
  • Experience with design and analysis tools (e.g. Team Center CAD FEA CFD. GT Power)
  • Experience with software and tool development applications (e.g. MATLAB Simulink VBA Python C)
  • Simulation experience (e.g. HIL SIL and DIL systems)
  • High energy personality with an internal drive to take appropriate action to move projects forward in a fastpaced work environment
