Position Summary

The Assistant Director for Facilities provides leadership for building and equipment maintenance and repair selected capital construction projects and overseeing the maintenance staff for the Department of Physical Education and Recreation (PE & Rec). This includes over 385000 square feet of indoor facilities and equipment and 11 acres of outdoor recreation fields and spaces.

Facilities include the Student Recreation Center Esslinger Hall Gerlinger Hall Gerlinger Annex Student Tennis Center McArthur Court Outdoor Program Barn Club Sports facilities and the Outdoor Recreation facilities (fields courts running track & open spaces).

The Assistant Director for Facilities oversees work priorities assignments and training requirements for department maintenance staff. This position will serve as a liaison for UO Facilities Services staff performing work within PE & Rec facilities oversee delivery and installation of equipment from vendors and assist with coordinating projects with contractors. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director for Facilities.

In conjunction with the Assistant Director for Operations the Assistant Director for Facilities manages the daytoday needs of all facilities and assists with risk prevention and management. This position requires CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain in a timely manner.

This position is responsible for hiring supervising and evaluating a Trades Maintenance Coordinator 1.0 FTE) a Trades Maintenance 2 staff member 1.0 FTE) and a Certified Pool Operator 0.5 FTE) and provides indirect oversight of 47 student employees.

The Assistant Director must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. This is a fulltime 12month position expected to work inperson on our Eugene campus.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Recreation Administration/Management Sports Management Exercise Science Physical Education or related field AND two years experience in cardio/weight facility management. An additional two years of experience in cardio/weight facility management will substitute for the Bachelors Degree.
Two years of experience in facilities management.
Two years of supervisory experience overseeing the work of others. Supervision of student employees is considered qualifying experience that can be included toward meeting the twoyear requirement.

Professional Competencies

Evidence of leadership experience and/or a commitment to student learning and development.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population including coworkers faculty students and community members in an inclusive environment.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
This position requires CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain in a timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff and work effectively with students.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in or demonstrated understanding of basic budget oversight inventory control and purchasing.
Two years of experience purchasing managing and maintaining fitness equipment.
