Job Description

Overview

The Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) System Environment of Care Safety Coordinator is focused on standardizing implementing and maintaining the Safety program for NAH and its various entities. This role assists with NAH safety improvement efforts such as developing and administering the program training and coaching employees and facilitating change throughout the organization. This role will develop maintain and evaluate policies and procedures and drills to meet or exceed required regulatory expectations. The individual must be knowledgeable and fluent in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) The Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care and National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements. This role also requires the ability to work with our community partners in Flagstaff Verde Valley and surrounding areas serviced by NAH.

Responsibilities

Collaboration and Support
* Develops maintains and evaluates safety plans policies and education for NAH campuses and entities in Flagstaff Verde Valley and surrounding areas.

*Initiates and participates in safety improvement programs within NAH.

*Environment of Care (EOC) committee leader at each hospital facility.

* Collaborates with clinical staff and facility leadership to develop safety policies and procedures for review and approval by the respective facility EOC committees.

* Conducts arranges participate in and evaluates the effectiveness of environmental tours (Proactive Rounding) to identify risk and assess conditions throughout NAH hospital facilities. Compiles and presents EOC rounding compliance reports to individual departments along with summaries to senior leadership.

Monitors departmental budgets and regulatory compliance. Determines need for systems equipment supply purchases.

* Onsite evaluations of NAH facilities as required (frequent travel).

* Maintains working relationships with community agencies and organizations.

* Strong organization and managerial skills. Able to hold others accountable coach and mentor.

* Collaborate with system departments in the development of Business Continuity Plans for emergency response.

Communication
Validates that effective plans of corrections have been developed and implemented in response to identified nonconformities deficiencies or opportunities for improvement. Assures appropriate documentation management of plans of correction are maintained.

* Effective written and oral presentation and communication skills. Able to work with large and small teams across the organization and drive change at all levels.

Regulatory and Organizational Knowledge
* Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory standards for safety and emergency management including ADHS Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) TJC NFPA EPA OSHA NIMS requirements.

Collaborates with Accreditation leadership and organizational leaders to ensure effectiveness of safety processes in order to promote regulatory compliance quality and safety.

* Able to work independently utilizing evidencebased practices effective communication and problem solving to ensure continuous improvement and readiness in relation to safety management.

Compliance/Safety
* Participates in regulatory surveys (Accrediting Arizona Department of Health Services ADHS) and events related to the role as required.

* Responsible for reporting any safetyrelated incident in a timely fashion through the appropriate reporting mechanism; attends all safetyrelated training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for the position ensures all certifications and/or licenses are uptodate and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required jobspecific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED Required
Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field Required
Certification & Licensures
Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) completed within 1 year of hire
Environmental Health and Safety Professional Certificate completed within 18 months of hire
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ISand 800 or American College of Surgeons Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness course must be completed within 6 months from date of hire

FEMA Professional Development Series Preferred
Performance improvement experience (i.e. LEAN Six Sigma SIPOC PDCA) Preferred
Experience
Excellent computer skills including but not limited to MA Microsoft Word Excel and Power Point Required
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
